Stephen Miller previously worked on the staff of Senator Jeff Sessions who later became Trump’s first Attorney General. Miller joined Sessions’s office in 2009 (initially as a press/communications staffer on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Sessions was the ranking Republican). In that role he worked closely with Sessions on immigration issues (including helping defeat the 2013 Gang of Eight bill) and developed the hardline positions that later shaped Trump-era policy.
He rose to communications director and stayed until early 2016, when he left to join Trump’s presidential campaign as a senior policy adviser in President Trump's 1st term.
In April 2021 he became co-founder and President of American First Legal until he rejoined President Trump's administration as Deputy Chief of Staff and Homeland Security Advisor.
