Dr. Jordan Peterson tried to warn us.
The best time to stand up to compelled speech was ten years ago.
The next best time is now.
👇👇👇
Re-reading the 2017 transcripts of @jordanbpeterson's testimony to the Senate, he correctly predicted that Bill C-16 adding "gender identity" and "gender expression" to the list of protected grounds in the Canadian Human Rights Code was a vanguard issue in an ideological war.
While almost 10 years have passed since, it remains critically important to remember Dr. Peterson's concerns. A country that legislates compelled speech is a country where free speech is under attack.

Most people are unaware of the excesses of the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal and the laundry list of outrageous cases it rules on.
This is not a normal use of taxpayer dollars. It's a system being weaponized against everyday people to enforce a narrow set of progressive ideals.
@kateemarland explains on @WDiminishment:
“It bears constant reminding that our Human Rights overlords fined an elected school trustee $750,000 for remarks made about sexual orientation and gender ideology. Some amongst us would endeavour to reform this institution, but those would be individuals with far more institutional trust than me. I do not see a path forward for reform when we have done a cannonball off the deep end.” @kateemarland @nationalpost

This is one of the most illiberal, invasive and appalling pieces of legislation ever to come before Parliament.
The Conversion Practices Bill isn’t about preventing gay children from being abusively coerced into being straight. That is already rightly illegal.
It will criminalise well-intentioned conversations between parents and gender-confused children, discussions with therapists, and religious leaders sharing their faith’s teachings with their congregations.
A parent could face up to five years in prison simply for trying to dissuade their child from embarking on irreversible, dangerous and life-changing medical pathways before the age of 18.
In his letter to the pre-legislative scrutiny committee, the Minister for Equalities attempts to reassure us that the bill respects “freedom of religion and parental rights”.
It does no such thing.
So much for the Labour Government’s promise to tread more lightly on our lives. It is not the state’s role to dictate what conversations parents can have with their young children around the dinner table.
Parents know best — not ministers.

Unimpressive minds say things like "everyone thinks this way."
It's an attempt to launder one's opinion as consensus, which itself has no bearing on truth.
A habit of weak people who wish to seem strong in numbers.
"I'm right because I believe what the herd believes."

It’s wonderful to see these people sitting on a stage together having a challenging and important conversation.

Imprisoning non-compliant academics sounds like quite the "progressive" future.
This is the first time @NDP member of Parliament @LeahGazan has confirmed she wants to imprison writers if they point out that the unmarked graves in Kamloops don’t exist. (I was a contributor to the bestselling book she mentioned, along with Flanagan) This party has lost its mind
“A three-year-old Angus Reid poll found that over half of Canadians said the trend of cancelling public figures due to controversial statements suppresses free speech.
Since 2023, public attitudes towards cancelling have arguably gotten much less supportive.
In a 2024 report from the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, Canadians rejected cancel culture, agreeing with the statement ‘political correctness has gone too far’ by a margin of 78-22.
Cancel culture fatigue has seen the rehabilitation of many previously cast aside from society, even seeing figures like persona non grata Don Cherry appointed to the Order of Ontario with minimal pushback.”

“In a sort of pseudo-McCarthyist attempt, the B.C. NDP has gone full throttle since the writ was dropped with attempted cancellations and censorship of B.C. Conservative candidates and staffers.
The predominant narrative put forward by the B.C. NDP is the message that there are dangerous extremists that might be sitting at Lorne Doerkson’s table should the B.C. Conservatives form government.”

“Any criticism of the regime or suggestion of reform is met with cries of racism and intolerance in order to obscure the nefarious way in which these institutions have been used to consolidate power.”
