A great article by Kemi that explains why supporters of assisted dying should oppose this specific bill.
“You can believe that terminally ill adults should have greater control over the circumstances of their death and still conclude that this process is unlikely to produce a system guaranteed to deliver that safely.”
"I have watched people I love endure prolonged, painful deaths... But I am not voting as a grieving relative; I am voting as a legislator."
@KemiBadenoch explains why, despite supporting the principle of assisted dying, she will vote against the bill ⬇️

.@Keir_Starmer did us dirty.
Days before standing down, he gave Big Money a massive concession.
So leaseholders stay ground rent slaves.
Don’t let him win!
Or he’ll box Burnham in.
Say NO to “Quid Pro Quo Leases”.
Respond to the consultation by 11:59pm this Thursday.

.@michaelgove is right.
@AngelaRayner made freeing leaseholders her battle from the backbenches, pushing back against the overly cautious, legalistic Starmer leadership.
Now, she can finish the job 👇

Healey famously wrote to the last Tory government in October 2018 that its “proposals for leasehold reform are too slow, too weak and overlook existing leaseholders”.
Exactly the same could be said of the Starmer government.
Good to have a pro-leaseholder Chancellor at last!
Excellent news, we can now finally deliver real Leasehold Reform for millions of leaseholders.
Well done @mtpennycook 🙏 – at Clapham, England
Congratulations. We are delighted that @mtpennycook will remain in post and now attend Cabinet 🚨
Leasehold reform needs continuity to deliver the change leaseholders need.
Working with @AngelaRayner they are both committed to deliver for Leaseholders.

Congratulations @AngelaRayner on return to Govt to continue with work of genuine Leasehold Reform & Regulation of Managing Agents.

Mark McLaren, former legal affairs at Which? and regular at our leasehold APPGs, leads £4.5bn class action on housebuilders' price fixing. Same publicly subsidised cartel that brought us rip-off ground rents, building safety defects and fleecehold. Do we have the worst housebuilders in the world? @HomeBuildersFed @mtpennycook @justinmadders

Back here again. Latest government upheaval means leasehold reform - and a housing minister who understands it - are questionable. Comfort only to the usual suspects at this point.
We need proper protections for flat owners service charges.

Service charges are ruining lives and fuelling the housing crisis.
Starmer’s answer?
Scrap the promised Law Commission reforms that would put homeowners in control of service charges, while protecting money-for-nothing ground rents until 2068.

By U-turning on a manifesto promise to end the leasehold scam, @Keir_Starmer is pushing “Own Nothing and Be Happy”.
We reject this weak, lobbyist-friendly Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill.
Government must revive the remaining Law Commission enfranchisement and RTM reforms.

Remarkable that the Court of Appeal is allowing Big Freehold another go to thwart the will of the people in ECHR lawfare against the 2024 Act.
But the government acts like it wants more of this farce.
Keir Hardie would be ashamed of Keir Starmer, appeasing rentier parasites.
Ground rent = money for nothing.
Second-biggest parliamentary majority in 126 years.
And yet @UKLabour are protecting the grift until 2068.
So much for ending leasehold.
