Ok, Iโll take the bread bait. Hereโs your flat bread:

I've been really struggling financially, which has forced me to postpone getting a dining table for my new home. Today I decided to take a different route to get groceries, and noticed a beat up wooden table wedged between trash cans on the side of the road. I carried it 6 blocks home, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Once I maneuvered it inside and wiped it down, I found one singular sticker on the underside.
God is on my side :')
Every Election Day I struggle with the knowledge that this system is a farce but am somehow compelled to vote to slow the inevitable disaster that awaits us. Itโs schizophrenic.
My cousin is incredibly medically complex due to Primary sclerosing cholangitis which was diagnosed in the mid-1980s, has had two liver transplants, and numerous other surgeries. She has a phenomenally positive attitude and her husband is her greatest advocate. Her one remaining kidney has been slowly failing for years, but this past February a rotavirus infection hospitalized her for 12 days and exacerbated her kidney failure to the point of starting the process to go on the kidney transplant list. Those of us family members who are believers, and members of our church, have been consistently praying and lighting candles for her health.
Today she saw her nephrologist and her creatinine level is better than itโs been since before February. Prayer works.
Few things anger and sadden me more than when a devout Christian dies and their non-religious children deny them a church funeral service. Itโs the height of selfishness.

If a man have not order within him
He can not spread order about him;
And if a man have not order within him
His family will not act with due order;
And if the prince have not order within him
He can not put order in his dominions.

Modern life is a form of slow torture for most people. You get painless dentistry, abundant calories, and 500 channels in exchange for this opaque, ceaseless horror.
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026โฆ
Does anyone remember kneeling alongside the bedside to say prayers at bedtime as a child? Do children ever do this now? What if we go back to this practice as adults?

People who are responding to this post with some variation of โI donโt know what youโre talking about!โ should take Amtrak from NYC to Chicago.
Youโll see one sad exsanguinated town after anotherโhusks of an America that was but is no longerโplaces where the concept of a โneighborhoodโ was a lived reality.
We are an atomized, isolated, drugged-to-the-hilt society now, despite the well-off enclaves where families trick-or-treat in parking lots before sundown and pretend the poors are just a bunch of complainers.
You can just lie in the grass, soak up the sun, and wonder at the beauty of the bluest October sky and no one will stop you.
Attended a โPriestly Parastasโ (evening vespers for the deceased) for a former priest of our parish who died of illness much too young. Our Archbishop and approximately 10 other priests conducted the service and everyone in attendance sang the responses in a mix of English and Old Church Slavonic. It was a beautiful and moving service that provided a deeply spiritual comfort to the family.
Have been thinking about this all morning and how much more meaningful this โcommunionโ and fellowship was than anything else I did all week. Even though I attend church every Sunday and all Holy Days, there is something mystical and incomprehensible about such a service. We should participate in this type of communal prayer more often. Our lack of time and access to these services in modern life is one of our greatest losses.
So, looks like I have to go to battle over the obscenely bright and intrusive LED lights that were installed a few days ago across the street from my home and are flooding the front of my property and the inside of my house with light. God, Iโm so tired. Why does. everything have to be a fight anymore?

I homeschool the same reason I bake my bread.
It IS ridiculous. And I'm NOT a pro. I should be able to buy decent bread and send my kids out to receive decent instruction. But we live in a society that's decided bread and public instruction should be extremely soft and sweetened.

One wonders about homeschooling, too.
I cannot imagine having my wife simultaneously be nursing a baby, having morning sickness, dealing with teenagers, dealing with toddlers, cooking meals, cleaning the house, and somehow managing to teach school.
That seems ridiculous.

This is a case where you really can just tell the Bishop to pound sand and pray them anyway. People really can just start praying them aloud after Mass because a Bishop can't say you can't pray a prayer after Mass inside the Church.
Our local bishop is banning the St Michael prayer from the end of Mass.
His article, in the local Catholic paper, explains that in order to celebrate the liturgy โin accordance with the mind of the Churchโ priests need to โcatechize the people of God as we move away from additional prayers recited together immediately before, during, and immediately after Mass.โ

We simply have to stop appointing bishops whose ability to manage exceeds their desire to.
The Francis Papacy in particular has been dominated by choices of bishops who are perfect reflections of the failed 1980s version of American Catholicism.
There is not one intelligent person who would spend time in any Diocese, look over the landscape and think to themselves โYou know what we really need to do? Ban the Saint Michael prayer after mass.โ
Final note on this topic:
Not two months ago a left-wing publication put out an article about why we shouldnโt pray that Saint Michael prayer after mass.
If you do not think this is a coordinated effort, you havenโt been paying attention.

Many people have ceased to be able to imagine a life for themselves at a small enough scale that their nervous systems can handle it.
We have all been trained to imagine the Good Life is one of extreme achievement or extreme consumption, often both.
The trouble is that trying to live at an inhuman scale ruins our bodies and souls.
