I've been really struggling financially, which has forced me to postpone getting a dining table for my new home. Today I decided to take a different route to get groceries, and noticed a beat up wooden table wedged between trash cans on the side of the road. I carried it 6 blocks home, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. Once I maneuvered it inside and wiped it down, I found one singular sticker on the underside. God is on my side :')

Modern life is a form of slow torture for most people. You get painless dentistry, abundant calories, and 500 channels in exchange for this opaque, ceaseless horror.
This is such a bleak story about what it's like to try to land a job right now. nytimes.com/interactive/2026โ€ฆ

People who are responding to this post with some variation of โ€œI donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about!โ€ should take Amtrak from NYC to Chicago. Youโ€™ll see one sad exsanguinated town after anotherโ€”husks of an America that was but is no longerโ€”places where the concept of a โ€œneighborhoodโ€ was a lived reality. We are an atomized, isolated, drugged-to-the-hilt society now, despite the well-off enclaves where families trick-or-treat in parking lots before sundown and pretend the poors are just a bunch of complainers.
I feel for kids who will never know what itโ€™s like to run wild through their neighborhoods on Halloween. I thank God often for the gift of knowing what it was like to live in an analog world, with neighbors who knew and trusted each other. It angers me, how quickly it dissolved.

I homeschool the same reason I bake my bread. It IS ridiculous. And I'm NOT a pro. I should be able to buy decent bread and send my kids out to receive decent instruction. But we live in a society that's decided bread and public instruction should be extremely soft and sweetened.

One wonders about homeschooling, too. I cannot imagine having my wife simultaneously be nursing a baby, having morning sickness, dealing with teenagers, dealing with toddlers, cooking meals, cleaning the house, and somehow managing to teach school. That seems ridiculous.

This is a case where you really can just tell the Bishop to pound sand and pray them anyway. People really can just start praying them aloud after Mass because a Bishop can't say you can't pray a prayer after Mass inside the Church.
Our local bishop is banning the St Michael prayer from the end of Mass. His article, in the local Catholic paper, explains that in order to celebrate the liturgy โ€œin accordance with the mind of the Churchโ€ priests need to โ€œcatechize the people of God as we move away from additional prayers recited together immediately before, during, and immediately after Mass.โ€

We simply have to stop appointing bishops whose ability to manage exceeds their desire to. The Francis Papacy in particular has been dominated by choices of bishops who are perfect reflections of the failed 1980s version of American Catholicism. There is not one intelligent person who would spend time in any Diocese, look over the landscape and think to themselves โ€œYou know what we really need to do? Ban the Saint Michael prayer after mass.โ€ Final note on this topic: Not two months ago a left-wing publication put out an article about why we shouldnโ€™t pray that Saint Michael prayer after mass. If you do not think this is a coordinated effort, you havenโ€™t been paying attention.

Many people have ceased to be able to imagine a life for themselves at a small enough scale that their nervous systems can handle it. We have all been trained to imagine the Good Life is one of extreme achievement or extreme consumption, often both. The trouble is that trying to live at an inhuman scale ruins our bodies and souls.

It seems clear to me that the Great Replacement is a subcomponent of a broader phenomenon, the Great Abstraction: words on paper are more real than blood and flesh, abstract values are more real than sensory information, virtual objects are more real than physical matter. The endpoint is that the human body itself and the world we experience will be replaced with something else, something truly putrid & evil, unless we can gain clarity & reroot ourselves

If you want Christendom back, go to Church. I know the churches are mostly full of awful people but thatโ€™s no excuse. Go to church. Demand Christian doctrine and the liturgy that embodies it. Demand all the things that Christianity gave to civilisation. Choirs, architecture, schools, music, faith hope and charity. All these things will return but only if you go to church.

Religion is often cast as a solution to "loss of meaning" But "loss of meaning" is just the secular way of saying "loss of religion", or "loss of connection to God" What we are seeing is not that we lost "meaning" and therefore need religion It is that we lost religion and can't do without it
Prediction: organised religion is going to come roaring back as a response to loss of meaning in post AI world. The catholics recognise this and are getting ahead of the game

Technology is suffocating brick-and-mortar commerce. Order ahead. UberEats. SkipTheDishes. People will do anything to avoid being present in person unless it's to line up for the hot new ice cream or something to post on social media. The combination of smartphones and social media ended life as we knew it. Nothing is real. All is artiface, all is affectations.

There are millions of young birds across the country heading into their first ever winter. Most of them will be dead by spring. First-year mortality for small songbirds is brutal - up to 80% don't make it. And with 3 billion fewer birds in North America than there were in 1970, every one we help make it through winter is a win. Four things you can do to move the needle: 1. Provide shelter. Shelter arguably matters as much or more than food. A small bird burns a relatively high number of calories overnight just trying to staying warm. Leave your nest boxes up, and consider building a brush pile to give small birds a place to hunker down. 2. Give them water. When it's below freezing outside, water is scarcer than food. A heated bath or a heater in the one you have is one of the highest-value things in a winter yard. 3. Leave the food that's already in your yard. Don't cut the seed heads. Coneflower, black-eyed Susan, sunflower, aster - don't rush to deadhead and clean up the garden. Leave the berries on the winterberry and the dogwood. 4. Put the feeder up now. They might not need it yet, but birds work from a map of reliable food and learn it during the easy months. A feeder that appears in the middle of winter is one that can take weeks to be found. What your yard does this winter could mean the difference between a dozen or so young birds making it, or losing the battle in their first winter.

There are two economies: 1. The "mainstream" economy that exists to serve Genocidal Monopoly Capital, and 2. The alternative economy that exists to support human flourishing. It is really important that you are clear on what economy you are participating in.

The single most powerful anti-anxiety activity for children that exists is exhilirating/mildly risky play. Our society has systematically moved to stamp it out, to the point of criminalizing it. High anxiety in kids is the least surprising outcome we could have predicted.
