CEHURD joined partners to honor the incredible journey of Dr. @GiftMalunga3 at a fireside chat commemorating her retirement.
Represented by @chelaestherlabu and @nadyrislam , we had the honour of reading Dr. Gift Malungaโs biography and journey as outgoing @UNFPAUgandaโs Country Representative.
Dr. Malungaโs career has been dedicated to addressing some of the most pressing health and social justice issues of our time - reducing teenage pregnancy, tackling maternal mortality, and empowering young people to live healthier, more dignified lives.
Her work has shaped programs, influenced policies, and most importantly, touched communities across Africa. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Malunga has been a mentor and role model, especially for young women, encouraging them to claim their space and lead with confidence.
As she steps into a new chapter, we celebrate her commitment to health, rights, and equity, a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

She stressed that young people who are sexually active should have the right to prevent pregnancies and protect themselves from STIs, noting that mixed messages promoting only abstinence have not reduced teenage pregnancy rates over the past two decades.

Because I really wanted to do more, I challenged myself to go beyond. From a bachelorโs in sociology, to a masterโs in population and democracy, to leading international programmes โ every step was fueled by a deeper purpose: investing in adolescent girls and young people. #FireplaceWithUNFPARep
My passion was born from my roots, from my mother and grandmothers who didnโt have the same opportunities I had. I chose to invest in girls because when we miss them, we miss the link to transformation.
From UNIFEM to UNFPA, my mission has been clear: give girls and boys the chance to dream, to thrive, and to lead. That passion remains my compass today โ because the future depends on how much we invest in young people today.
