Pune International Centre marked its 16th Foundation Day with an evening of reflection, ideas and conversations about the road ahead. The programme opened with remarks by Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar (@rameshmashelkar), President, PIC, followed by a look back at 15 years of PIC by Prashant @Girbane, General Secretary, PIC. The evening then moved towards PIC’s future — with the launch of the new Pune International Centre video, followed by Dinanath Kholkar (@dinakholkar), Director, PIC, sharing the Centre’s priorities for the year ahead. Dr. Nitin Kareer, Trustee, PIC, shared an update on the PER Growth Hub project, while Lt. Gen. Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar (Retd.), Convenor, PIC Public Health Research Area, spoke about incubating public health research. The highlight of the evening was the 16th Foundation Day Lecture by Dr. Abhay Karandikar (@karandi65), Member, NITI Aayog, on “Transforming India’s Science and Technology Ecosystem towards Viksit Bharat 2047.” Dr. Karandikar spoke about India’s growing capabilities in science, technology and innovation, while highlighting the need to democratise research, translate research into commercialised products, and encourage greater private-sector investment in cutting-edge R&D. He also touched upon emerging opportunities in AI and deep tech, space, biomanufacturing and quantum technologies, along with the need to prepare for an ageing population and strengthen the focus on preventive healthcare. The evening concluded with an engaging Q&A, felicitation of the guest, a vote of thanks by Dr. Vijay Kelkar, Vice President, PIC, and a group photograph with the PIC team. As PIC enters its 16th year, the evening brought together many of the ideas and people that continue to shape the Centre — looking back at 15 years, reflecting on the work underway, and looking ahead to the possibilities that lie ahead.
