Today is the last day of ~160 days that I've spent, on & off, at @thenairobihosp over the last 1/4 of a decade...mostly in I.C.U. My body feels AWESOME right now. It's taken >15 surgeons & specialist, hundreds of nurses & medical staff to put humpty dumpty back together again.

I got this message from a senior police officer following my request for a statement in the Senate on the welfare of police officers in Kenya. “I have been asking myself: if a DCI office at the sub-county level receives less than KSh 200,000/- in AIE funds over a period of three months, our salaries, fuel, and motor vehicle maintenance then where does the rest of the billions allocated annually to the police service go? This is a genuine question about public finance and resource allocation. Officers on the ground are often expected to deliver results with extremely limited operational funds, yet the police service receives a substantial budget every year. Greater transparency on how these funds are distributed from headquarters to operational units would help build public confidence and improve accountability. Even some sub counties have no vehicles and have as few as four officers and no AIEs.”

Would be great to have a Kenyan election website like theoelections.com (recommend you visit site on desktop/laptop) Great interface. Only we'd do counties instead of states and polling stations instead of precincts.
We finally have results from 217 counties across Texas. After the first day in early voting, Democratic primary voters hold a D+8.4 point lead over Republicans compared to R+10.9 4 years ago. Similar to the county numbers, this is a 19.3 swing in primary voters.

In uni, I used to play tennis with a Malaysian guy that competed against a 12 yr @lleytonhewitt (former no.1) while he (Malaysian guy) was 17 yrs. Tells me he was demolished by the 12 y.o. Hewitt. Yet I have never seen anyone do anything as skillfully as Malaysian played tennis
The difference between an Olympic swimmer and the average person is actually insane 😭

It puts into perspective the gulf in skill between me and the World no. 1 in tennis. Before that I always assumed it's about 5 or 6 standard deviations away from me in skill/talent. It's more like 45.

Just worked out that it's cheaper to rent a fully charged eV for the day instead of driving to Thika and back in my own car (Touareg) Even when I include the uber cost to rental place + back home.

They won't allow any recording, at polling stations, by citizens. They want to stop livestreaming of results. Pretty sure the next law will be to forbid citizens from staying within 100 metres of a polling station after voting + a curfew that mandates everyone stay home after 6

Fellow Kenyans, the Constitution is clear. The electoral system must be “accurate, verifiable, secure, accountable and transparent” No law is superior than our Katiba. I will work with the People’s Coalition for Electoral Reforms @Reforms_Ke to thwart any efforts to return us to the dark era of ECK or the post election violence of 2007/08.
The National Assembly has approved the Elections Amendment Bill 2024, which could scrap mandatory livestreaming of polling station results, raising fresh concerns over transparency ahead of the 2027 General Election. #KTNPrime @TheJesseRogers

“In late spring 2020, a source I knew to be reliable called me with a story,” writes Matthew Cole. “The Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner’s phone and monitored him as he accessed a Dubai-based bank account. What was odd, the source said, was that the money in the account—hundreds of millions of dollars—had come from a bank in Azerbaijan. Most importantly, Kushner appeared to have transferred significant amounts of money from the Dubai account to other individuals, including a warlord, a mercenary and a one-time hit man. The story sounded preposterous, I told my source. And yet. Six months later, I found myself speaking with someone else about the UAE government and their use of mercenaries in conflicts around the Middle East and Africa when I asked, on a whim, whether they knew anything about Kushner and bank transfers from a UAE account. My acquaintance grew quiet. Then they replied, ‘Yes.’” Kushner’s lawyer denied the bank account existed. At the x-ray dept and the waiting room is filled with only boys waiting to be x-rayed. Not one girl. Don't girls break/fracture their limbs? Turns out school holidays are boom time for x-ray depts. Bikes, skateboards, tree climbers, roller blading, football....

Folks, Could we all agree to give the next president a lot of grace. Especially Y1. New prez will find a country whose fiscal headroom is almost at ground level. Voting out Ruto doesn't mean that we automatically extricate ourselves from the adverse effects of his presidency.

What worries me about Kenya is the obsession we have developed lately with securitisation, public-private partnerships (PPPs) and complex deals involving mysterious entities whose ultimate beneficial owners remain unknown. The deals are too many to keep track of, and I fear that one day we will pay dearly for the lack of transparency and accountability surrounding them.

It’s sad that in Kenya people with the right connections become millionaires overnight, while those investing in factories creating jobs, and building real technology struggle to survive. We reward middlemen and frustrate manufacturers, yet wonder why we are not industrializing.
