@rolysussex describes editors as boundary umpires: what is in? what is over the line? He says that spoken English is twisting the arm of written language, and the boundary is increasingly blurred #IPEdConf21

I also loved hearing about the long debate over "Aujourd'hui, maman est morte." from L'Étranger and all the ways it has been translated so far and how agreement seems to have been reached only relatively recently, in 2012 (Today, Maman died.).

Terrific keynote from @rolysussex on editors as boundary umpires. I've learnt a new word: penumbra (grey area). #IPEdConf21

Wow. So much to think about from @jodiemartire's presentation at @IPEd_Conf! Plenty of suggestions for editors working with authors from under-represented groups. #IPEdConf21

It’s Indigenous Literacy Day & these are the only two fiction books that I know of that have alternating chapters by both Indigenous & non-Indigenous authors to tell two sides of our history. One for the adults & one for the kids. I’d love to see more book partnerships like this.

A THREAD! Some highlights from #IPEdConf19
Dr Angela Savage's story of an editor who drew a map of the garden in an MS about growing up with backyard cricket to show that the cover drive couldn't have landed in the holly bush: "Show me a grammar checker that will do that!" ⬇️
