"Outcomes not robots" isn't a prediction, it's a 40-year-old fact. Systems integrators have sold outcomes since the 80s — nobody buys an arm, they buy a line that hits takt time. Those companies trade at 4-7x EBITDA. So if outcomes are where the money is, why is the outcomes business valued like a plumbing company?
Because every deployment is a bespoke snowflake, and VCs looked at that and decided the sexy part must be somewhere else.
So the last 3 years of physical AI funding went to: humanoids with no customers, foundation models with no fixturing, and demo videos of robots folding towels. Meanwhile the robot is ~30% of a cell's cost. The other 70% - fixturing, safety, commissioning, the engineer living at the plant for six months - is untouched. That 70% is the entire reason physical AI hasn't scaled. The hardware has been ready for years.
The OEMs can't capture it, they're allergic to services margin. The model labs can't capture it, because a policy that crushes the benchmark still has to be bolted to a 1987 press brake in Ohio by someone who knows what a PLC is.
The winner in physical AI is going to look embarrassingly boring: whoever makes cell #40 cost 10% of cell #1. That company stops being an integrator and becomes the operating layer for factories. And most of this market will miss it because it doesn't demo well on a keynote stage.

this should be a five alarm fire for policymakers in canada
517 american companies started by canadians. $414 billion raised. almost 9 in 10 of them went to school in canada
incredibly, 216 of these founders went to waterloo…. and half of these companies were started in the last 2 years!
517 US companies with a Canadian founder. $414B raised. 88% educated here.
The talent was never the problem. The belief was.

TIL @WisprFlow's overlay suppresses the macOS Apple Pay Touch ID authorization control (this took me 3 months of pain to debug)
@tankots who do I have to talk to get this fixed? I've lost so many tears behind this

Read through the fcc advanced robot ban again and I dont think a significant amount of robotics startups here in the U.S think it applies to them but it probably does (if its over 4.4lbs, moves around, can be tele oped, and has a camera - it’s an advanced robot)
>65% percent of your bom cost has to be from US suppliers, otherwise it is classified as a foreign robot - doesnt matter that you assembled it in the US
If youre under that 65% you can apply for an exemption but you need to state why you couldn’t get supply in the US and whats your plans to reshore those components + more (see image)
your sales qty most likely wont let you get classified as COTS
Nvidia gpu’s are probably counting towards foreign bom, your actuators are most definitely considered foreign & tariffs count towards foreign bom as well
Those low end cheap 12 feetechs on a mobile base bots i keep seeing pop up will count as foreign robots basically and be banned for sale

Absolutely fantastic airmanship. When it was discovered during their performance that RED 6 had a missing fuel cap during Friday’s display at Oshkosh, they simply adapted from a 7 ship formation into 6 and the crowd didn’t even notice.
