It looks like @SlowToWrite overstayed his legal residence in the US by years. And apparently, he may not be legal in Canada either, as DHS has described him as "from Ghana." He is now voluntarily deporting. Does he deserve this? Yes. The difficulty for his family is on him - not our immigration laws, nor on his theological or political views. The GiveSendGo fundraiser's claim that he is a legal resident is false.
Yet, he only "got what he deserved" in terms of his facing the legal consequences for his failure to follow immigration laws, not because his views or his color warrant removal.
I have received a statement from DHS regarding Sam Sey:
“On October 21, ICE arrested Samuel Sey, an illegal alien from Ghana, at the Columbus International Airport. Sey entered the United States legally in 2022 but overstayed his length of admission by over four years, in violation of our nation’s laws. Sey has no pending applications and accepted voluntary departure. He will remain in ICE custody until removed from the United States.
“We do not pick and choose which laws to enforce or where to enforce them.
“We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.” - DHS SPOX
As I get more information, I will update.
Wisdom here.
Sounds like the paperwork error explanation was four years in the making. Best case scenario, a misunderstanding of what temporary status means.
DHS is correct that even if someone is beloved by Americans (or in this case some American Christians), the law is the law. It must applied with biblical equity.
I encourage my Christian brothers and sisters who appreciate Sey’s work to pray for his family and consider helping them as they likely have needs starting a new life in Canada, Ghana, or wherever they end up.
The Left is already mocking the fact that Sey supports ICE and allegedly got a taste of his own medicine. This will be used to move the general population toward an anti-ICE posture. We, who are patriots, should be clear that we support Sey’s positive views on ICE even if he failed to abide by the laws they enforce, whether ignorantly or not.
Finally, there are people with axes to grind for Sey’s attacks on others whom he believed did not share the correct position on race. I have at times been critical of Sey myself.
Whatever those differences, now is the time to be thankful for a President who takes border security seriously and to pray and hope for the best for the Sey family in their next chapter.

Which candidate is more likely to uphold what is right and punish what is evil?
That's the whole question. Everything else is a distraction.
Too many Christians don’t vote. Some from real hesitations about a candidate, others from cynicism about the whole process. But whatever my hesitations about a politician, they always reduce to that one question.
Politicians and the media give us plenty to be distracted by but many times we make the decision harder than it needs to be.
