The first time I understood suicide. Like really understood the trauma of being left behind… was when I was 17.
I think of Gareth often. I knew him all my life. We grew up together. We called each other cousins. He had such a big smile. And the most infectious laugh. And he was always so kind. He was big, and strong, and a really, really nice guy. I really loved him. He was like another big brother. Even though I was the youngest, he always included me. He never left me behind.
Until he did.
Since then, I have felt it over and over and over. There are just too many good humans who are no longer here.
We all know someone. We have all lost someone. We all understand the trauma now.
And I guess knowing is a constant reminder that we are all fighting really hard battles. We live in a very broken world where people who we love are dealing with massive monsters that we know nothing about. Good grief, all those horrible things we face.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.
Around 1 million people die by suicide each year. Every 40 seconds, the loss of a person shatters the lives of family and friends.
I have lost too many friends to suicide.
I think that’s why it is so important to be kinder than necessary or needed to everyone. Full stop. We really, actually, have no idea what other people are dealing with. Try to remember that. Above everything else, just be kind.
Always be kind.
And that means being kinder to ourselves too.
Watch more sunrises. Stop doing shit you hate. Believe in yourself. Do what feels good. Take risks. Make yourself proud. Create a life that makes you happy. Love your body more. Hang with awesome peeps. Throw toxic in the trash. Give assholes the boot.
And I know that goes against being kind… but sometimes, letting people go - the kak ones - is the kindest thing you can do for yourself.
Smash some goals. Walk barefoot. Share your magic. Love louder. Flaunt your awesome. Be a nice human. Be the reason someone smiles today. Be freaking brave.
And please reach out if you can't. PLEASE!!!
Hold on. Reach out. Be kind to yourself.
No goodbyes today.
Okay. Love you.

How to destroy a beloved brand.
Step 1: Put a soulless, data-driven consultant who has never even seen a basketball court or a running track up close in charge.
Step 2: He goes direct! And increase profits while destroying the retail distribution system and betraying a multitude of 20-year-long partnerships.
Step 3: Motivated and innovative competitors like On Running and Hoka rush to fill the distribution gap Nike left by abandoning its trusted partners.
Step 4: Not satisfied, he fires all the stupid creative people who can't prove any of their ideas work with hard data. What could they possibly know?
Step 5: Celebrate when milking the brand for every last cent works for about 18 months, even though the data quickly show a disaster is looming.
Step 6: OMG? Wut?
Step 7: Fire the old CEO and bring in a new one who's been with the brand since day one. He tries his best, but just too much damage was done.
Step 8: Get delisted... Go down in history as the greatest example of data-driven idiots destroying one of the most successful creative brands of all time.
The end.

THE DAMS ACROSS SOUTH AFRICA ARE IN BETTER SHAPE TO SUPPORT AGRICULTURE
When we talk about the likely impact of the forecast El Niño on South Africa’s agriculture, one must appreciate that this time is different.
The recent harsh El Niño drought was in the 2015-16 summer season. It led to major crop losses, and livestock suffered immensely.
The season before it was also relatively dry across South Africa, which meant that even the irrigation areas didn’t have as much water.
We are now approaching another worrying El Niño-induced drought, but with very different conditions. We are closing a rainy La Niña summer season. The 2025-26 summer season brought ample rains that improved soil moisture and the water levels in dams. This means that we may have a better start to the 2026-27 season, with better water levels for crop irrigation.
All of South Africa’s commercial fruits and vegetables are produced under irrigation. On field crops, grains, oilseeds and sugarcane, roughly 20% is under irrigation, with the rest of it rainfed.
Better water levels in dams will help in these irrigated areas. But the rainfed regions also will have a better start with improved soil moisture following the longer rainy summer seasons.
Of course, these positive developments won’t necessarily save us from a drought, but they are, nonetheless, minor cushions compared to what we have recently witnessed in the last droughts. These are issues that farmers will also reflect on when the 2026-27 season starts in two months.
The table below prompted me to make this comment.

I looked up the Doctor detecting an SA accent when he was interviewed. SA born Wits medicine trained. 🇿🇦 👏
Doctors have used ground-breaking surgery on an unborn baby to successfully correct a birth defect while he was still inside the womb.
Baby Theo, who is now five months, had gastroschisis, where the belly button does not develop properly, causing the intestines to grow externally.
He was on the #BBCBreakfast sofa with parents Maisie Savage and Josh French

I kinda don’t want to let this go until I hear from Spur and know she’s been recognised. She’s saving to study medicine. I want people to go there and say, “I want Tebogo. Here’s a big tip. Now please be my doctor.” @SpurRestaurant
Yo @SpurRestaurant. Tebogo at your Lone Wolf branch in Randpark Ridge is one of the coolest waitresses on the planet. Please give her a promotion or a crown and sash or something. Thanks.
