Darren England reached the Premier League as an assistant referee. Then he swapped the flag for a whistle and worked his way back from the National League. He’s since taken charge of 100 Premier League matches, refereed the FA Cup final at Wembley and earned his first Champions League VAR appointment. And he’s still setting himself new targets. Speaking to BBC Sport, Darren reflects on backing himself to make that career change, the support he’s had along the way and what keeps him pushing to improve. 🔗: bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

Carrick to be sacked. Man Utd need deeper overhaul though.

You cannot name a single thing that Man Utd are good at. Even their strong counter-attacking threat that was keeping them afloat in the Solskjaer & Ten Hag era has now dissipated. You think it cannot keep getting worse. But it does. This is definitely the nadir.

I just remembered that @obyezeks also entered my dm for something similar 😂 In my early 20s taken in by the compliments, I started to post more of my pictures here. And she said; “My dear daughter, are you really sure this is your path? You are so much more than your poses and these kinds of tweets that open a floodgate for silly people to proposition you.” I straightened immediately 😊
A few months ago, my grammar was not particularly great, especially here on X. Then, one beautiful morning, I received a call from Dr. Oby Ezekwesili ( @obyezeks ) that changed that aspect of my life forever. She advised me to go back to Primary 3 and rebuild my foundation in English. She said something profound: Once you fix the foundation, everything else begins to fall into place. I took her advice wholeheartedly. I went back to study Primary 3 Grammar and Comprehension, and that simple decision transformed my command of English. I remain deeply grateful to @obyezeks for that invaluable piece of advice. Its impact on my life has been remarkable. But this experience taught me something much bigger about education. Many of us are struggling today, not because we lack intelligence, but because we are building on weak educational foundations. We keep trying to fix problems at the top when the real problems are at the bottom. Sometimes, the greatest form of progress is having the humility to go back to the basics and rebuild properly. You cannot build excellence on a foundation you have refused to repair.

Replying to @oopayinka @Omojuwa
@oopayinka Olawale Opayinka, what a pompous exhibition of intellectual arrogance! You dismiss Nigerians as an uninformed “populist audience” simply because they question an argument you admire. Understanding elementary revenue arithmetic is not evidence of superior economic intelligence. The real challenge is explaining how revenue translates into productivity, public welfare and accountable governance. Rather than address those questions, you congratulate yourselves for supposedly being among the few who can read. Intellectual superiority is not established by insulting the public. It is demonstrated by the quality of one's reasoning. A sophisticated vocabulary cannot rescue a shallow argument, sir. And condescension is no substitute for competence.

You forgot this during Jonathan's presidency?
If you shared everything Nigeria’s federal government expects to collect in 2026 equally among Nigerians, each person would get $114.35 for the year. That is $9.53 a month, about N13,000. And that assumes nothing else happens. No roads, no schools, no hospitals, no army, no salaries. Just the entire federal revenue divided by the number of Nigerians. The first delusion to cure yourself of is that Nigeria is a rich country. You cannot heal a disease you refuse to acknowledge. As a Nigerian, you should be angry that our election conversations almost never touch this, the mother of every other problem we have. How do we expand our productivity? That is the question. Everything else sits inside it. Today is Sunday. When they say “Owó ni kẹ̀kẹ́ ìhìnrere,” what do you think it means? It does not apply to the gospel alone. Whatever you want to carry, money is what carries it. It is why one of the first things the United States did in its war on terror was go after the money. PS: Some comparisons below.

Everything is share, share. The richer nations, what do they do with thier money? Share it all? Arguing with someone who made the earth diameter tweet is a waste of time sef. Such an idiot. You have access to this, and access to huge loans and grants, laws, powers and arrangements to partner with other private companies. Why not just do the basics for your citizens? Build systems, build hospitals, build schools, build water systems, build roads, generate and transmit sufficient electricity, connect states via rials and many more. But share it all instead mumu.

Since 2015, APC has always come up with a silly excuse as to why they failed to deliver their promises They spent buhari first term blaming PDP 16 years rule.. then they moved on to blaming oil prices and Nigerias large population Now they are telling us that we are a poor country I wonder what the next excuse would be after the 4 years again

Although this is referring to Federal Government’s revenue and not the entire country’s revenue, Nigeria is still a poor country. However, the problem is that the political class doesn’t care about that. This narrative is only sold to the citizens while the political class continues to live in denial and squander the “scarce” resources. This is why they don’t talk about being productive or managing the resources better.

The second Arsenal goes top of the league, the league suddenly loses quality 🤣
Shaping up to be another low quality Premier League season. Arsenal are very complete but City have lost successive games and their wins are pretty much meaningless, that’s another loss for Liverpool, Chelsea are erratic while Bournemouth and Spurs - winless three weeks ago - are now in the top eight. It is not difficult to merely compete.

It seems attackers have renewed their focus on Nigeria’s financial sector. I’ve personally heard about a couple of organizations that have suffered security breaches recently but have kept them under wraps. Now, I’m seeing another person’s status seemingly confirming the same trend. Peace be unto you if you work in any of these targeted organizations. You’ll need it.

A Premier League legend who experienced both leagues said this. But somehow, Messi is the one they think wouldn’t survive the PL. 😂

As a black person you always gotta fear that there'll be a single clip that sets off thousands of people across the world to justify their hate and dehumanization of us. White people could do the same thing but God forbid its some black kids without respect
Look who showed up to ruin Halloween for kids.
