AI has caused an influx of fake candidates in the job market.
Candidates read a job description, feed it into ChatGPT, and generate bullet points for skills they've don't have.
Most get caught on the first call. Some make it further. A few actually get hired, then get exposed the first week they have to do the work then end up getting laid off within a few months.
This is why you're being asked to do more take home tests, technical screens, and onsite interviews.

I posted about jobs yesterday and got 3,000 applicants. 90% of them were complete garbage because candidates are using AI to auto-apply to hundreds of jobs a day.
It's totally fucking with a company's ability to find legit applicants and the problem is only going to get worse.
Just one example of how "fight fire with fire" (read: agents fighting agents) is going to be the answer to bad AI actors in every part of the economy.

The most memorable story of these for me is @JoeFernandez stalking the owner on X, then showing up and sliding an envelope with $5k in cash across a restaurant table to get klout dot com

We need to bring back @klout. There's way too much slop getting attention. Give it to the people who are authentic, with takes grounded in common sense. cc @JoeFernandez

Some of our best hires were totally unqualified on paper.
They always had the same qualities: entrepreneurial, high agency, smart, mission aligned, and they got shit done.
If you’re hiring, especially in early stages, seek out & bet on these people. Don’t over-index on resumes.

A fun sign that your company is doing well is when other company’s put your logo on their homepage.
Subtle, but still a flex :)

For DTC brands, the 3PL model is broken—and I’ve lived this problem for the last 12 years.
At @shyp (Non-Asset-Based) and Airhouse (a 4PL), I shipped 10M+ packages/yr and worked with dozens of 3PLs.
Airhouse ultimately failed due to poor performance by partner warehouses. 🧵

Most candidates these days are using AI to build their resumes.
Issue is many candidates are adding fake experience to their resumes.
For example - saying they worked on X tech stack without ever having done it.
They’re either being lazy and not editing the resumes after using whatever AI tool, or flat out lying.
The repercussions for this on the employer side is that they’ll likely have more added/intense layers to their interview process as this gets more popular.
Even when we enter back into a candidate-driven market, I still think that’ll be the case as the risk of a “bad hire” will only increase.

I was asked by an exec last month to apply for a VP job they had open b/c they wanted see how his TA team handled my (pre reviewed) resume:
It was a job I’m:
1) qualified for
2) show direct experience in
3) direct industry experience
Only gap: didn’t have exact job title

i love you all.
today was a weird experience in many ways. but one unexpected one is that it has been sorta like reading your own eulogy while you’re still alive. the outpouring of love is awesome.
one takeaway: go tell your friends how great you think they are.

I’ve started to do something strange but I think it makes sense.
When I hire, I send all of the questions to a candidate before the interview.
Unless you’re evaluating for quick-thinking, I’m not sure why we should surprise candidates.
I’d rather that they have the time to prepare and demonstrate how clearly and deeply they think.
