What do Larry Kudlow, Janet Yellen, Steve Mnuchin, @econJaredB & me have in common? We all believe the permitting reform bill is essential for America to build, grow, tackle climate change and maintain our technological lead. Probably the broadest letter I've ever signed.

Wow, this was so hard to foresee when Congress—including 30+ Dem senators and 50+ House members—voted to give Trump new tariff powers
Replying to @lrozen
Trump officially waives application of the sanctions on Russian energy in the Lindsey Graham Act he signed last month.

Trump’s tariffs raised prices on more than imports. New York Fed researchers found they also pushed up the cost of American-made goods. Full story here foxnews.com/politics/america…

Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate-- then were told to lay off. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

There are real limits to what we can accomplish in a world where people believe nothing they do really matters. My book (!) is about how we wound up in a place where millions of people feel like spectators in their own lives. And how we course correct. Because we can.

Infuriating—but this is what we warned anyone who would listen: Trump isn't the slightest bit trustworthy when it comes to Russia. Giving him expanded tariff powers in hopes he would use them to help Ukraine was a mistake. Now he's *lifting* sanctions on Russian fossil fuels.
Today, at President Trump’s direction, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is immediately issuing a temporary general license to allow the supply of Russian diesel to the global market.

Today, the U.S. is sanctioning the ICC and doing a deal with Putin who faces an ICC arrest warrant.
Today, the Trump Administration is sanctioning the ICC. This action should encourage our Allies within the Court to work for solutions to end this threat to U.S. sovereignty forever.

does this mean we will soon start tariffing ourselves? The bill gave Trump the authority to impose 100% tariffs on the biggest purchasers of Russian oil/gas
Three weeks ago Trump signed the Lindsey Graham Russia Sanctions bill as a testament to Graham's commitment to put an economic stranglehold on Putin. Today Trump announces we're importing massive fuel from Russia

If you want to argue that one of the most cited papers in policy discussions in the last 15 yrs had no impact then what does that say about every other policy paper? It was VERY discussed by thoughtful policy people under Obama and shifted a lot of views and some policy.
On "China Shock" research vs policy... Important to debate research, but any suggestion that current US protectionism has anything to do with Autor-Dorn-Hanson's papers seems outlandish to me. Trump thinking on these issues is well documented and goes as far back into the 80s.

Maybe it's just me, but I personally wouldn't have campaigned on lowering prices and then immediately enacted policies that increase prices. 🤷
New polling shows 80%+ of Americans disapprove of Trump on inflation. That's more than ever disapproved of: -Biden on the Afghanistan withdrawal -Bush on the economy amid the financial crisis -Bush on the Iraq war -Bush on Katrina -Reagan on Iran-Contra -Carter on the economy amid stagflation -Carter on the Iran hostage crisis -Ford on his pardon of Nixon -LBJ on Vietnam cnn.com/2026/10/01/politics/…

Tariffs do not add to GDP. We have a little more steel, a little less of everything else and, net, lower GDP and income.
Making American Steelmaking Great Again. President Trump is prioritizing hardworking Americans instead of foreign labor. This will become the largest steel plant in American history, create thousands of jobs, and add billions to the economy for decades to come.
