In summer 2023, Harvard Business School suspended a star professor, Francesca Gino, over charges of research misconduct. By coincidence, one of her affected papers also had some funny-looking data from a *different* B-school superstar, Dan Ariely... (1/3)

People often claim scientists’ ethical or political endorsements undermine scientific integrity, but is that true? Actually, “the value-free ideal (VFI) — a traditional conception of objectivity — [was] not correlated with generalized trust in #science". doi.org/10.31235/osf.io/ks2t…

In our new @PNASNews paper, across 21 experiments with 23,000+ participants, we identify a critical distortion that shapes decisions involving tradeoffs: we find that people systematically overweight quantified information in such decisions. Paper: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.24… 🧵

In a remarkable new study, Simine Vizier (@siminevazire), Sarah Schiavone (@SchiavoneSays), and Mijke Rhemtulla (@mijkenijk) surveyed 724 personality/social psychology researchers to investigate what they think of their own field. First, the good news: 🧵

So many people confuse LLMs (or genAI, in general) for models of human cognition, language, learning, etc., so I thought it may be useful to share once more my brief comment, titled "Psychological models and their distractors". (open access link: rdcu.be/cGQpY) 🧵

I need an #rstats sanity check for a #psychology study I'm running...just need to make sure I'm specifying the mixed-effects model correctly All input is welcome, will explain in the next tweet...

So would this be the right mixed-model (lmer) specification: Model 1: DV ~ Time * Condition + (1 | Subject) Or should it be this: Model 2: DV ~ Time * Condition + (1 + Time | Subject)...

Since "Time" is really just the main effect across all interventions (there's no control), that should be modeled as random slopes like Model 2, correct? I don't know why but I can't shake the feeling I'm missing something. Any help is appreciated!

Still remains a masterclass in building a garbage platform
I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I'm never not shocked by the incompetence that went into constructing Manuscript Central.
