…and the bill is from @tiffany_caban
The Amazon driver who is forced to drive in extreme heat, starts vomiting, and is told to keep driving. The Amazon driver who cuts his leg open, is told to keep going, goes to the hospital instead, and gets fired for it. The driver who is attacked by a mentally ill man *while delivering packages,* goes to the hospital, stays home on doctors orders, and is docked pay for the days she's recovering. The driver who is sent out with broken doors, a broken transmission, and has to keep going. The driver who is sent out with a side mirror held together with tape, and is told "go buy tape, tape it again, and keep driving." The same driver who is sent out with no reverse camera, in the summer with kids out of school who's told "just don't go in reverse." The drivers sent out to drive in New York City with zero training. ...and Amazon takes zero responsibility for all of it. There's a bill in the New York City council right now, today, that fixes all of this. The Delivery Protection Act has the support of the Mayor and a supermajority of the council. One powerful democrat, @SpeakerMenin, just needs to move it forward. NYC can make history, protect workers, protect people on the street, and check this lawlessness. Or it can leave these drivers hanging out to dry.

Zohran, city council members, and labor leaders rallied today outside City Hall in support of the Delivery Protection Act, proposed in New York City, which would force Amazon to take responsibility for these workers. Amazon is using subcontractors to hire and manage delivery drivers without officially employing those workers, all to skirt liability for damages or injuries, and this bill would remedy that injustice.

TEAMSTERS RALLY FOR DELIVERY PROTECTION ACT AT NEW YORK CITY HALL Today, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien joined hundreds of rank-and-file Amazon Teamsters and New York City elected officials, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, for a rally at City Hall urging Council Speaker Julie Menin to schedule an immediate vote on the Delivery Protection Act. The Delivery Protection Act, authored by Councilmember Tiffany Cabán (D-22nd District), would require delivery companies like Amazon to register their facilities with the city and ban subcontracting for last-mile delivery drivers in the five boroughs. Amazon uses a corrupt subcontracting model in which third-party “Delivery Service Partners” shield the company from legal liability while making billions in profit. The bill is supported by a majority of the City Council and Mayor Mamdani. “Amazon is America’s most corrupt white-collar crime syndicate, wasting millions to rob warehouse workers of the right to collectively bargain while designing a nationwide subcontracting scheme to deny employment rights to its entire fleet of delivery drivers,” O’Brien said. “New York City is a vital artery of Amazon’s global logistics operations, and it must be the first city to pass the Delivery Protection Act. Amazon’s unchecked exploitation of drivers and parcel delivery workers has got to end. The Teamsters are honored to lead the fight to fix a broken system stacked against working people, and we thank Mayor Mamdani, Councilmember Cabán, and the supermajority of the City Council for standing with workers at this critical moment.”

Clerks at DHL Express in Cincinnati, represented by Teamsters Local 100, have successfully joined the DHL Teamsters National Master Agreement. The group is now covered by the strong wages, benefits, and workplace protections of the national agreement and will receive an average wage increase of 38 percent over the next four years. In May, DHL Teamsters overwhelmingly ratified a new four-year national agreement that secured 20 percent wage increases, increased employer contributions to health and welfare benefits, established protections against artificial intelligence routing systems that undermine seniority, and an explicit ban on autonomous vehicles that threaten Teamsters jobs. Local 100 also represents 1,300 ramp-and-tug workers at DHL’s global hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). Together with 1,500 sort workers represented by Teamsters Local 89, nearly 3,000 DHL Teamsters at CVG are gearing up to bargain a strong new contract.

At DCWP we are doing more than enforcing workers' rights. We're standing with workers as they fight to expand them—from @amazonteamsters and the Delivery Protection Act, to @LosDeliveristas and historic deactivation protections.

Big union news in Queens: a new unit of Amazon drivers went public today in Woodside, marching on the boss to demand union recognition. Amazon wants to make billions off these workers' backs by denying them fair pay and basic protections. But these drivers are uniting to win what they deserve. Proud to join them.

I sat in a room last month with a woman who injured her hand at JFK8. She was told to keep working. That was her one hand. Her other arm ended at the elbow. Another woman was sent to do Prime deliveries with a side mirror held together with tape. Another time, she was sent with a fully broken side mirror and was told “stop by a pharmacy, buy tape, keep driving.” One time, she was sent to do deliveries in the summer, in Queens, with school out and kids out, with no reverse camera. When she told her boss she wouldn't be able to see kids behind her van, she was told “so don’t go in reverse.” Another woman was assaulted by a mentally ill man *while making Prime deliveries*, was told by doctors to stay home to recover, and was never paid for that time. Another driver, a young man in his 20s, was sent out to drive in broiling heat in a van with no AC. It was so hot he started vomiting while making deliveries. He asked for help. They told him keep driving. When all of those *Amazon* delivery drivers asked *Amazon* for help, Amazon said 'you don't work for Amazon. You work for an independent contractor.' These workers HAVE a solution, it's called the Driver Protection Act. It's supported by all but one NYC councilmember. And yes, Jeff, most of them think you're a villain. Because that's what happens when you hurt people who work harder than you and get rich off of it.
BEZOS: When you're in the polling booth and you're thinking about who you're going to vote for, think about this. If there's a politician that is picking villains and pointing fingers, that's probably means they don't have a solution If there's an executive at one of my companies, instead of working on a root cause and a real fix, all they did is point fingers and blame people, we would exit them quickly.
