It’s construction sediment. It happens every time we get a heavy rain. Sites that don’t properly secure their property, bleed sediment & debris into stormwater system that flows into bay, smothering what little seagrass there is left. The penalties & fines are not severe enough.
Not sure whats going on here at Maurice Ferré Park near the PAMM. Is this some kind of discharge or runoff? Whatever it is, it sure ain't natural and can't be good for Biscayne Bay’s ecosystem. @Damianpardo8 @LOUISAGUIRRE @lrobertsonmiami @MiamiWaterkpr @peterehrlich1 @tessriski

With South Florida's popularity on the rise, the upcoming legislative session I will once again prioritize improving water safety and safeguarding the environment and wildlife. This agenda includes initiatives like mandatory boating licenses, the installation of more signage, bolstering the presence of first responders, and leveraging technology for more effective enforcement. The focus will be on strengthening policies and enforcement against Boating Under the Influence (BUI) while also reviewing and potentially amending the Manatee Protection Act to ensure the protection of these gentle creatures. @FLSenate

🚨Miami Beach closing monument island to boaters. “This is a case of boaters failing to behave responsibly around one of our natural treasures. The city will have an enforcement presence on the island during the holiday weekend to ensure that boaters respect the closure.”

The Tropical Atlantic has never been this hot before in May.
A severe marine heatwave has developed across much of the Tropical Atlantic and Caribbean, with water temperatures up to 5-7°F above normal in some areas.
Water temperatures in the Caribbean have already exceeded peak hurricane season levels (mid-September). This will have significant implications for marine life and hurricane season.

This weekend @CityofMiami activated its brand new #LeaveNoTrace policy to engage boaters to be responsible for the trash they create while enjoying the islands of #BiscayneBay The enormous amount of trash they regularly leave behind is not sustainable. Will this new policy work?

It is so perplexing. What is in the water?? Scientists have yet to find a reason. Sure seems given the mass coral deaths last summer/ fall and now this, that the shallow water environment is falling apart. May very well be unrelated, but still points to accelerating problems.

I was pretty blunt at @GlblCtzn about how we need business to be real on #netzero - and held accountable. We need to ensure that everyone who cares about climate can reward the leaders by choosing to work for them, buy from them, invest w/ them. That's why clear standards matter.

This pains me. When I was a kid my dad used to take our family out in the boat 1 hour away from shore in Miami to swim in Elliot key precisely bc it was pristine, isolated & nature in all its glory. #ElliotKey is a treasure- to see it trashed like this should embarrass all Miami!
I spent this morning helping @Cleanthisb_up remove 1,239 pounds of trash from Elliott Key

Europe’s next crisis: the water crisis.
It’s April & many 🇪🇺 countries are already on alarmingly low 💧 levels.
All over Europe.
This is why adopting our proposals, especially on Nature restoration & tabling EU’s 1st Soil Health Law is crucial!
