In April 2024, ORE launched as a pure fair-launch experiment on Solana: no pre-mine, no team or investor allocation, and a hard-capped token anyone could mine from a phone or laptop using proof-of-work. solanacompass.com/projects/o…
It rapidly became one of the chain’s most active programs and nearly took Solana down with it. That forced two rebuilds. V2 introduced a memory-hard algorithm. Then, on October 22, 2025, V3 replaced computational mining with a 5×5 grid: every minute, participants deploy SOL across tiles; one tile wins; most SOL returns to miners while the protocol’s share funds automated buybacks (90% buried, 10% to stakers). Major milestones since the pivot
- Mint frozen (Dec 2025) : Supply hard-capped at 3 million ORE (cut 40% from the prior 5M target) with immutable emission rules (~1.2 ORE per round, capped near 2 ORE/min). No one can expand supply. xitter.cf/ORE/status/19984754053…

- Scale & revenue : 4.2M+ SOL deployed cumulatively. The result is a Solana-native hard-money attempt that generates its own demand for $SOL , converts fees into scarcity, and pairs Bitcoin-like distribution ideals with high-speed composability. Community builders (OreParty, Ruby, tools, media archive) are expanding around it, and the Reserve continues compounding buy-side strength.
Year two of virtual mining is underway. The model is live, fee-driven and still early relative to its max supply. The mines stay open.

One year ago today, ORE introduced virtual mining on @solana.
