For colleagues in neonatology:
What’s your current practice for term infants needing surfactant?
👇
Do you use LISA, INSURE, or decide case-by-case?
Interested to hear what’s working in your units, especially for MAS and pneumonia. #NeoTwitter #NICU

This is indeed a big problem in Pediatric Residency Education. Only 13% & 44% making competency on flow-inflating bag and T-piece respectively. Ventilation skill is critical to neonatal resuscitation. But I'm sure the board that gutted resident time in the NICU and then gutted Neonatal fellowship time will fix it. @EBNEO @AmerAcadPeds @ab_peds nature.com/articles/s41390-0…

Can just 20 minutes of CPAP after cesarean birth improve outcomes for late-preterm infants?
In the multicentre PLaNT Trial, led by @szyld77161 and @drbirju, prophylactic CPAP was: ✅Safe and feasible ✅ Reduced respiratory support at 30 minutes ✅ Reduced unplanned NICU admissions
A simple intervention that may help babies achieve a smoother transition at birth.

Created by our NNCC nursing lead Norma Oliver, this is our newest cranial US simulation model. You can see the anterior cerebral artery Doppler with pulsatile flow in video clip and caudo-thalamic notch on 2D.

What’s the approach to positive ET culture? When should treat and when should it be avoided? While a negative culture is obviously desirable, how far should we pursue it? Will the side effects of antibiotics eventually outweigh their benefits?

At an European conference, I’ve noticed a greater push for fortifying human milk with human based protein compared to previous years.
Interesting
I’ve been repeatedly told that NIDCAP isn’t suitable for the UK because it’s a North American programme. However, I’ve found that many European countries have well-established programmes.
Over feeding in NICU especially CLD babies?

I genuinely don’t understand this attitude towards ANPs. In the NICU, ANPs are invaluable assets and highly sought after.

Interesting paper on discharging preterm infants home on caffeine. Common in my Canadian experience, rare in the UK. This survey suggests wide variation across Europe. What is your local practice? Safe, or not?
