Did you know that DEI actually harms black individuals?
Here's three things about DEI in healthcare that you should know ➡️
@PeerReReview
Newton gave us the laws of motion. Einstein gave us relativity. Marmot gave us “give every child the best start in life” and “create fair employment.”

NEW: Abdul El-Sayed has emphasized his experience as a public health official serving the everyman. But his public health SCHOLARSHIP reveals an extreme view cloaked in academic jargon:
In several papers, he implies Arabs should remain in enclaves and that assimilating to America and having white neighbors poses a health hazard.
"It seems to be basically advocating Arab separatism by couching it in pseudoscientific terms." - @PeerReReview
Researchers have long said studies like El-Sayed's are bogus and based on stereotypes.
For example, El-Sayed argued in one paper that Arabs' health is poor because they have "a more corpulent image of beauty."
I'm a doctor and a dad. I rebuilt Detroit's health department, led Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services. We put glasses on kids, took on corporate polluters, eliminated medical debt.
I'm running because it just shouldn't be this hard to get by in the richest country in the world.

It was a huge mistake to eliminate Step-1 scores and grades in the first two years of med school.
Say what you want, but grades & Step-1 scores focused students on studying actual medicine and they were fair.
OK, I'll see myself out now.
More than a decade ago, the trend led by top medical schools was 2-tier (pass/fail) grading for preclinical courses. The story of the last decade is pass/fail for core clinical clerkships (now at 12 of the top 25 schools). As a result, residency programs have more difficulty differentiating students from these schools, and students are increasingly driven to pursue extracurriculars (chiefly research/publications) and max their Step 2 score to distinguish themselves.
Putting an end to racial preference and racial separatism in medicine is now a matter of “moral injury.”

Here's a taste of my argument in a new article on the causes and practical solutions for doctor shortages in the US in @AcademicRenewal (1/):
U.S. medical schools reject qualified applicants while hospitals increasingly rely on foreign-trained doctors to fill residency positions.

A new health paper advocates for a post-capitalist socialist economy, which the authors say involves nationalizing banks and putting major corporations under public control.
Credit where it’s due—the authors are unusually honest about what they mean when they say health equity.

Pretty hard to argue with this.
Nobody inspires confidence in the fight against medical misinformation like social media influencers.
In other words, the delusion that it’s possible to be neither or multiple sexes at the same time is exceptional, even within the trans-identified population.
Among youth presenting for #GenderAffirmingCare, nonbinary children and adolescents reported high gender dysphoria, with slightly lower body dissatisfaction and lower desire for some medical or surgical affirmation.

Medical Education’s answer to concerns about reliance on foreign-trained doctors: Edward Said and postcolonial theory.
Apparently Third Worldist thinking is supposed to reassure us about outsourcing medical training.

DEI advocates regularly profess concern about diversity of viewpoints. I look forward to hearing their concerns about the overwhelming political imbalance in academic medicine.
Doctors split the vote. Their teachers have a one-party problem washingtonexaminer.com/op-ed…
Yet another good reason to get identity politics out of medical education and healthcare. It’s divisive and unhealthy.
Stupid

Academic freedom has never meant freedom from public shaming.
Bizarre comment.
The opinions expressed at this event are indeed refutable, but if you're committed to academic freedom, HMS can't be attacked for allowing it to happen. | Harvard Medical School Takes on Weight Loss city-journal.org/article/har…
The Cass Review explicitly characterized social gender transition as an active intervention rather than a neutral act. Cass also recommended involving parents in decisions about social transition.
This JAMA commentary should be treated as a fringe, radical viewpoint.
💬 Viewpoint: Idaho House Bill 822 and similar parents’ rights policies may limit adolescents’ access to confidential care by affecting affordability, accessibility, availability, and acceptability of care.

It’s almost as if it’s an anti-intellectual framework that subordinates causal inquiry to political activism in service of critical theory and resource redistribution. Almost.

Reminder: such low-quality survey data is the source of the allegation that 41% of transgender-identified teens are suicidal.
Those surveys are even less reliable b/c they’re 1) online & 2) run by an activists seeking to prove the “need” for sex-rejecting procedures.
