Pope Leo 🔥🦁asking us all to pray for peace
🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
Let us continue to pray together for peace. The day after tomorrow, on 27 October, let us join in spirit with the heads of churches and religious leaders who will gather in Assisi to mark the 40th anniversary of the meeting convened by Saint John Paul II. Never before has it been so clear that wars, as well as sowing death and destruction, impoverish and harm the world. May the Lord inspire choices of dialogue and peace! #PrayTogether

Trump: "I will be a dictator on day one!"
MAGA: "Why can't you take a joke?"
Obama: "The White House looks like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheese Cake Factory."
MAGA: "Arrrrrrrggggggghhhhh!"
Please be true 🤞🤭

The real out of touch elitism is thinking Americans can’t take a joke about Saddam Hussein’s Cheesecake Factory. Literally no one cares.

I kind of read this story as a sign the Trump Era is drawing down. The "vibe shift" never really happened.
Conservatives don't want to talk about Trump and don't know what comes next, so we're back to the Tan Suit Controversy except somehow even dumber.

The people complaining about Obama’s Cheesecake Factory line sound like performative humorless scolds, maybe this is Woke 2.0.

Obama: "The one thing that the current president is focused on other than home improvements is enriching himself and his families and his cronies ... we've got a US ambassador shaking down a donor to pay off her credit card bills. We learned a Venezuelan billionaire wanted a pardon so he paid one of Trump's lawyers $50 million"

He has no idea how bad he is doing in GA. And to threaten our state that he would refuse to help the good people of Georgia just because he doesn’t like who calls him shows how much he really doesn’t care.
Trump has become a curse to Republican candidates and it will be worse in ‘28.

👀👀🤔Absolutely spot on. One of the biggest mental mistakes in the analysis of the #USA culture occurring at this moment is not understanding that Trump/MAGA etc. is still a SYMPTOM, not the root of the disease of our collective troubles
Superb essay.
The arrogance and ineptitude of British, European and American political elites who have spent the past 4.5 years professing their support for Ukraine is staggering.
Rather than recognising February 2022 as a decisive turning point in European history, they doubled down on the very same failed assumptions and policies that had left the West so vulnerable in the first place.
From energy and industrial policy to immigration and border control, they failed to recognise how their own decisions were weakening Western power at its foundations and eroding public confidence in the political establishment.
In doing so, they helped to create the ideal political conditions in which movements such as MAGA in America, Weidel in Germany and Le Pen’s National Rally in France could gain support, including for positions that now seriously threaten the West’s commitment to Ukraine.
The tragedy is that much of this was foreseeable and avoidable. Defending Ukraine required more than declarations of solidarity. It required rebuilding the economic and military foundations of Western power and sustaining public consent for a prolonged confrontation with Russia.

Obama: "A Venezuelan billionaire wanted a pardon, so he paid one of Trump's personal lawyers $50 million... and lo and behold, the pardon falls out of the sky... We have never seen a president excel in straight-up grifting on your dime like this."

The Russia smell of this Alaska fossil fuel deal was so bad that even former Exxon people bailed from the company. The smell of Russia permeates the corrupt Trump administration. ft.com/content/e9cfbfbb-e65a…
OSSOFF: If you’re late with your rent, the machinery of late fees and eviction is very efficient. But when you tell your landlord about the black mold in your daughter’s bedroom, nobody comes for four months. And then, when you’ve got to take her to the hospital for her asthma attack, you get a $3,000 bill for the ambulance.
Life was already hard enough before Donald Trump lied us into war, before his tariffs made everything more expensive, and before he doubled your health insurance premiums and slashed Medicaid.
It costs more today than ever before in American history to fill up your truck, to stock your fridge, to power your home, to go to the doctor.
Meanwhile, and you’ve seen it, the president and the first family line their pockets to the tune of billions of dollars.
The time has come to wield the power granted to us by our Constitution and rebuke this obscenity.

Trump supporters delight in Trump’s cruelty, of course, but they also engage in their own vile speech and actions as a virtual initiation rite into the MAGA movement — it’s the way that they demonstrate that they have the "courage" necessary to take on the left.
This perversion of the concept of courage is central to the MAGA ethos. In MAGA’s account of history, the Republican Party before Trump was a collection of cowards and quislings — people who knew the right thing to do but refused to do so because they were desperate for the approval of progressives. nytimes.com/2026/10/25/opini…

On Grandparents Day at my grandkids’ schools this year, I hope they include the transgender operating rooms on the tour so we can make sure they are state of the art.
