She does seem upset, but that’s probably because there’s no one from Cato Institute there to remind her that rebuilding from all this will have significant economic benefits.
🚨BREAKING: A distressed woman is restrained by left-wing thugs and forced to watch her livelihood destroyed France has become hell on earth.

We call on France to exercise restraint when dispersing the freedom fighters on the streets of Paris. These brave warriors for justice must receive immediate humanitarian aid, and their safety must be guaranteed in accordance with international law. Failure to comply will leave us no choice but to bring a case before the ICJ, in close cooperation with that renowned champion of human rights, Afghanistan.

Winnie the Pooh was published one hundred years ago today. I cannot be sensible about this cartoon bear. I am a boy of no brain when it comes to him; all I have to say is that I feel every bit as hopeless with affection for him, every bit as grateful for his companionship in the world of my mind, as a child hugging a stuffed animal. In the screwtape letters, when the young man dies and goes to heaven, he suddenly understands “The dim consciousness of friends about him which had haunted his solitudes from infancy.” The angels have been keeping watch over him in the nursery, whispering to him of divine love through childhood stories and imaginary friends. What we learn about from Pooh Bear is nothing but pure, silly tenderness for its own sake: divine foolishness. It’s enough that I could almost wonder if, when I die, the child in me will cry out as Christopher Robin does at one point in the book: “Oh Pooh! Where are you?” And maybe I’ll hear what Christopher Robin hears: “‘Here I am,’ said a growly voice behind him. ‘Pooh!’ They rushed into each other's arms.” Thanks Winnie, for everything. Happy 100.

Divorce discourse going around on X atm. Still thinking about the time I had plans with my friend, married mom of 2, for dinner. She showed up at the restaurant proclaiming "I just left my husband!" Shocked, I stumbled over my words to say, "I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" She exclaimed, "Yes! I feel amazing!" Obviously I was confused. "Is your husband okay?" She replied dismissively, "Yeah, he's fine. Kids will be fine. This is for the best." The entire meal was incredibly awkward as she launched into a story about how she met the love of her life in college, dated him for a couple of years, and he broke up with her after he refused to commit. She said she was devastated at the time. She loved him. He strung her along (evil behavior in a man, wasting a woman who is devoted to you), and it took her a long time to get over him. Soon after, her mother got ill and she married her best friend who was there for her... her now soon to be ex-husband. "But," she said, "There was no passion!" Not like her college boyfriend. And after 10 years, she was tired of trying to make it work with the man ot seemed she'd settled for. So this mother of 2 was now walking out on her husband, destroying her family, because it wasn't *passionate* enough. Evil behavior on her part. There were several lessons I took from this. Unfortunately they go directly against the advice of what a lot of "marriage-minded" large accounts are saying, trying to get people married and increase the fertility rate. But, 1) You shouldn't marry someone you're not overwhelmingly attracted to. You shouldn't marry someone you're not passionate about. I see so many conservative and right-wing accounts balk at this, saying something along the lines of "these things grow" or "they fade over time anyways, so it doesn't matter." But it sure does seem to matter. All the happy couples I know love each other passionately and have been together for over a decade. I really think there is some kind of projection going on here to just convince people to pair up with people they don't actually want to be with. And unfortunately, a lot of people are going to have to get in shape (or at least be willing to get in shape together), improve their hygeine, and work on their social skills to make this happen. 2) If you do make the mistake of having kids with someone you're luke warm about and they're a decent person, I'm sorry, it's too late. You got to make it work. You're not allowed to be selfish after you have kids. You're going to have to figure out how to build passion if you want it so much. And if it's not there, then just commit anyways. Your kids are more important than your feelings. Feelings matter before kids. You were supposed to use those to decide prior to this whole mess. I still feel sorry for her husband. I doubt he was okay. I think men deserve to have someone marry them who sees them as their dream guy. And I don't mean some rich, 6ft millionaire. Most women are reasonable despite what you hear on the internet. The dream guy is the man you connect with on a mental, physical, and spiritual level. Marrying a guy who isn't your dream guy, is taking advantage of him. You are wasting his devotion. It was bad selfish behavior on her part. Entirely evil. I also think men who are seen as a dream guy and choose to engage with that woman, yet do not intend to marry her, are equally terrible human beings. They are also taking advantage of that woman. Not everyone has it in them to love passionately multiple times in their lives. Letting a woman waste that love and devotion on you is pure evil. She could have used that energy on someone else and instead you were selfish. And now another man is suffering for it.

I read of the death of journalist Annette Witheridge, aged 66, with very mixed emotions. Much has been written about her distinguished Fleet Street career, particularly her role in securing the now infamous photograph of Prince Andrew & Jeffrey Epstein in Central Park. But my memories of Annette Witheridge are rather different. In 1987, she published a front-page story falsely claiming that I was dying of AIDS, then widely & cruelly described in the press as the “killer disease” or the “gay plague”. It was untrue. I maintain that she knew it was untrue, yet no correction followed. The consequences of such reporting were devastating, not only for me but for my family including my mother and my brother. At a time when ignorance, fear & prejudice surrounding AIDS were rife, such allegations carried an especially vicious stigma. In 1988, I had the opportunity to confront Annette Witheridge face to face on Channel 4’s live discussion programme After Dark. I took the original newspaper cutting from my pocket & challenged her directly about the story, the absence of verification & the damage it had caused. It was an extraordinary confrontation, broadcast live and unedited. Nearly four decades later, I have not forgotten it. I do not dispute that she enjoyed considerable professional success, nor do I begrudge those who knew & loved her their warm memories. But journalism must be judged not just by the scoops it produces or the powerful people it exposes. It must also be judged by its accuracy, integrity & the consequences for those whose lives become its subject. As tributes are paid to her career, I believe it is right that this chapter of her journalistic history should not be forgotten. Her death is a sadness for her family & friends, to whom I extend my condolences. But death does not erase history, nor should it prevent an honest examination of the conduct of those whose work had such profound consequences for others. The truth matters, as it did in 1987 & as it matters just as much today.

Alfredo’s in Atlanta. Best Italian food outside NYC in the US and hidden gem for most of my lifetime. Once owned by the mob (how my dad found it) and then by Perry who everybody thought was Italian but was actually Cuban. Crappy location next to a DOT storage yard. Ate there every year it was open. RIP to both Perry and Alfredo’s.

Haven’t seen anyone argue that. All arguments have been it wasn’t illegal. You’re a retard.
I have not “assimilated” into hookup culture but it’s odd to me so many “conservatives” think the men at the Cornell case behaved appropriately or morally even if you don’t think they did anything illegal. I guess under Trump they no longer believe in chastity or honor.

For decades, Johannesburg's city engineers operated a world-class system. They pumped water uphill from the Vaal River, spanning hundreds of kilometers and a 300 meter rise in elevation, purified it to global Blue Drop standards, and gravity-fed it into a massive network of reservoirs. Under strict technocratic management, water wasn't just abundant; it was a guaranteed, top-tier utility. The system worked on a simple and efficient order. Reservoirs and pumps were upgraded before they broke. Substation security and backup infrastructure were absolute priorities. Billions collected from citizens were actually reinvested into infrastructure. Johannesburg's weather didn't suddenly stop cooperating; its governance did. The abundance vanished the moment a political cash-cow framework took over. You cannot ignore leaking pipes for twenty years and expect water pressure to hold. Today, the city loses nearly half of its clean water to physical leaks before it even reaches a consumer's tap. Furthermore, these water pumps rely entirely on a stable power grid. Every time a substation trips or a rolling blackout hits, the pumps stop. When the pumps stop, reservoirs dry up. Once those reservoirs empty, the entire gravity-fed system gets airlocked, taking days to reset. When you replace experienced hydraulic engineers with political appointees to manage a multibillion rand water grid, you get peak political failure. Joburg's water abundance was never a gift of nature; it was a triumph of engineering and strict governance. The current dry taps are not a drought issue, they are the direct, predictable outcome of institutional decay.
Johannesburg's lack of clean water represents the absolute pinnacle of political failure. Whoever is responsible deserves no second chances; the city has fallen incredibly far.

If they are too young to buy a gun, they're too young to vote. Too young to serve in the military. Too young to sit on a jury. Too young to get student loans.
Not in New York. No teenager should be able to walk into a gun store and buy a handgun. Our laws don’t allow it and that’s not changing.

Ossoff is one of the Senators up for reelection this year. Vote his ass out. You'll have to wait until 2028 to give Warnock the heave-ho, but vote him out ASAP. All 435 Reps and a third of the Senate are up for reelection this year. Vote them all out. ALL OF THEM.
