During the Battle of Hogwarts, Professor Pomona Sprout did far more than simply stand by and watch as the films might have suggested. In the books, her contribution to the defence of the castle was active and particularly important, especially through her use of magical plants as weapons, something that perfectly suited her role as the Herbology professor.
Sprout took charge of bringing some of the most dangerous plants from the greenhouses into the fight. One of the clearest examples was the use of fully grown Mandrakes, whose screams could be deadly. They were thrown at the Death Eaters, providing a direct and effective form of defence. It was not a minor contribution; it was an entirely different but extremely powerful way of fighting.
Alongside the Mandrakes, other aggressive plants were also used to attack enemies, entangle them and block their advance. Sprout did not rely solely on spells. She turned the castle grounds into an active battlefield, using everything at her disposal. This showed that her knowledge of Herbology was not merely academic but could also be put to use in actual combat.
Her role was left out of the films, which made it easy for many people to underestimate her importance. Sprout was not just another Hogwarts professor; she was a key part of the castle's defence strategy, bringing a form of magical combat that few others could provide and that proved extremely effective during the battle.
