Interesting new data on alcohol use in the UK (N=1.7 million). This annual household income trend probably driven by fact that younger generations drink much less. Less than 1 in 50 people aged 18 to 29 drink every day, compared to 1 in 5 people aged over 80!

Karl Deisseroth just won the Nobel Prize. He showed that brain cells can be turned on/off by shining blue light on them, after inserting a light-sensitive protein from algae. The method was named optogenetics and has been used worldwide to link specific neural circuits to behavior.
BREAKING NEWS The 2026 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel “for their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.”

Grit predicts success even after IQ is accounted for. Persistence adds what talent alone does not.
mental trick with huge impact no one is better than you. no one is smarter than you. no one can work harder than you. the only reason someone is better than you at something is that they have been doing it for longer. remind yourself of this often, you will turn your life around

Serious suggestion to improve psychiatric training & care: All training programs & large scale providers should be required to run a lithium clinic for bipolar disorder & clozapine clinic for schizophrenia. Not having these= neglecting the severely ill/treatment non-responders.
Lithium & Clozapine stand out as the most effective/least used drugs in psychiatry. Partly because hard to use,but mostly because of poor traimg/poor funding/poor delivery of services.

New trial of retatrutide (triple agonist, building on GLP-1s), shows 25% weight loss in the highst-dose group. 25%! Just a few years back a trial with 10% weight loss would have been big news. These drugs are the biggest public health boon since antibiotics and vaccines.
In the phase 3 TRIUMPH-1 trial involving patients with obesity, retatrutide, a triple hormone receptor agonist, resulted in substantial weight reduction and a decrease in knee osteoarthritis pain and obstructive sleep apnea events. Full trial results: nej.md/4ycgSHz

@RCarhartHarris your argument seems to be blinding psychedelics is impossible, so stop trying. Set your creativity free! I like the fact that hips can be replaced, hearts fixed, infection cured. How did we get there? Finding causes for psychedelic fx means minimizing bias.
Replying to @TheBorisLab
Not one perfect design but upping aggression on blinding? Why such commitment to a paradigm/procudure over the purpose its intended for (i.e., causal identification)?

🔬 Advancing today’s biomedical research to build a healthier tomorrow involves more than publishing research results in journal. It involves verifying those findings through scientific rigor and scrutiny, transforming promising research into discoveries upon which the world can act. To that end, NIH has launched a new reproducibility and replication initiative rooted in one clear conviction—that discovery and independent verification are inseparable pillars of science.
