My favorite era of gaming.

In 1991, Nintendo made a decision that would forever change the gaming industry and ultimately help create one of its biggest competitors. Nintendo had originally teamed up with Sony to develop a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo, resulting in a prototype known as the Nintendo PlayStation. However, just one day after Sony publicly announced the partnership at the Consumer Electronics Show, Nintendo shocked everyone by revealing a separate agreement with Philips instead. The fallout reportedly came down to disagreements over software licensing rights, financial control, and the terms of the partnership. Sony was suddenly left behind, but rather than abandoning the gaming industry, the company decided to move forward on its own. That decision led to the launch of the original PlayStation in Japan in 1994, marking the beginning of a gaming empire that would go on to challenge Nintendo for decades. What started as a failed partnership became one of the most consequential turning points in video game history.

Had a top weekend at Play PLAY Expo Blackpool. There was loads of amazing old & new tech I'd never seen before. Great arcade gaming & watching some hardcore gamers complete games like OutRun & Ghost & Goblins. Everyone was really friendly & met some good like minded people.

DENNIFFIA for Commodore 64 (Magna Media/1996). Released in 1996 by the German magazine 64'er, the game is visually striking for an 8-bit title. It features nice pixel art and smooth assets, but critics note that the actual gameplay leaves much to be desired. That was expected: think of limited 'points' for the game project overall, and they 'invested' all points on graphics tech, leaving none for the game itself. One must reduce one side in favor of other (a balance of sorts, which is valid today, and even more back then under harsh hw constraints). #C64Reposts
