Thanks to @RobWardCGY for pushing for answers and transparency on the ECCO Recycling landfill fire. I was glad to join him in asking the Province to release the air-quality testing results as soon as possible. Residents have fair questions. We want to make sure they get clear, verified answers.
Mayor Jeromy Farkas and I have sent a letter to the Government of Alberta requesting the public release of the air-quality testing results from ECCO Recycling landfill fire.  Residents have raised understandable questions about the smoke affecting their communities. They deserve clear, verified information and full transparency from the provincial authorities responsible for environment monitoring.  We have requested an urgent response and will share further information as soon as it is provided.

Thanks for doing that @RobWardCGY hopefully the rest of council will do the same.
Our four-year budget decisions are just over three months away. I have been clear since the first day of my election campaign: I will prioritize funding Calgary’s core municipal services. For too many years, City Council has allowed its focus to expand while critical infrastructure and core services have been deferred or underfunded. It’s time to get back to basics. Needs before wants. Previous decisions have left us facing some difficult choices. Do we significantly increase taxes so we can continue funding non-core programs and responsibilities that properly belong to other levels of government? Or do we finally refocus City Hall on its fundamental responsibilities: maintaining our infrastructure, keeping our communities safe, and delivering the essential services Calgarians rely on every day? I made a commitment to Ward 11 residents that I would fight to get City Hall focused on the basics again. When the four-year budget comes before Council, you know where I’ll stand.

When I was a kid, the Chinook Centre Stampede breakfast was a bucket list event for me, so getting to lead the crowd there in my first official Yahoo of the season was a dream come true. I’m so grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who showed up to serve thousands of people all morning. Thanks to Councillor Ward for giving me some serious coaching on my pancake flipping, I think I’m feeling good and ready for the next ten days!

I met with City Councillors @nate_for_8 Nathaniel Schmidt and @RobWardCGY (Ward 11). Their wards overlap with #calgarycentre; we discussed several issues from both levels of govt that affect our mutual constituents. Good to keep the channels of communication open. #yyc #cdnpoli

I supported @RobWardCGY on his amendment to stop work on the Calgary Plan and focus on deficiencies of the current Municipal Development Plan. He’s right. The conversation on the Calgary Plan is not over.
Today I proposed ending work on the Calgary Plan and instead focusing on targeted updates to Calgary’s existing Municipal Development Plan. The amendment did not pass. My position is simple: before replacing one of the City’s most important planning documents, Administration should clearly demonstrate what is broken and why targeted amendments are not sufficient. I remain concerned that the Calgary Plan contains broad citywide intensification policies that many Calgarians will see as a return to planning approaches Council recently spent months debating. I’ll continue advocating for planning policies that prioritize infrastructure, local communities and common sense. The conversation isn’t over.

Councillor Wards motion to end The Calgary Plan and to amend the current Municipal Development Plan failed 10 - 5. I again implore you to read up on The Calgary Plan. - ALL areas "must accommodate growth and change". - The Calgary Plan would OVERRIDE local area plans where they conflict, so even community-led plans can be subordinate to citywide density direction. @RobWardCGY calgary.ca/planning/city-bui…

City of Calgary Announces Leadership Transition and Launch of CAO Recruitment April 29, 2026 Calgary — The City of Calgary is beginning a structured leadership transition for its senior administrative team and launching a recruitment process for its next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). City Council and current CAO David Duckworth have mutually agreed to begin a planned leadership transition from The City. CAO Duckworth’s last day will be December 1, 2026. If a successor is identified earlier, Mr. Duckworth will support a smooth transition in an advisory capacity. Chief Operating Officer Stuart Dalgleish has also announced his retirement, with his final day on June 12, 2026. Mayor Jeromy Farkas thanked both leaders for their service. “Stuart and David have both made important contributions to this organization and to The City. I want to thank them for their leadership during a period of significant work and change,” said Mayor Farkas. “This is a steady and planned leadership transition. Calgary is entering a new phase of growth, and we are taking this step to ensure our organization is well-positioned for the work ahead.” David Duckworth, Chief Administrative Officer, said: “Public service has been central to my career, and it has been an honour to serve Calgarians and work alongside Calgary’s dedicated public servants. I truly believe this is a natural time for this transition, as the organization enters its next phase. I remain focused on continuity, a smooth handover, and leaving the organization well positioned to serve Calgarians for generations to come.” Stuart Dalgleish, Chief Operating Officer, said: “My 37 years at The City have been more than a career – they’ve reflected a personal calling and proud commitment to public service. I am grateful to the people and teams, whether internal or external to The City, with whom I have had the privilege of working with and serving Calgarians together, and from whom I was fortunate to learn and become a better person. I’m confident our City team is well positioned to work towards an always bright and better future for Calgary.” The transition comes at a time of significant progress across The City, including major infrastructure work to strengthen Calgary’s water system, ongoing service delivery, and continued management of complex operational challenges. Calgary is approaching a milestone of two million residents and is entering a new four-year Council term. This transition is intended to align leadership with the city’s growth and long-term priorities. City services will continue without disruption. A clear interim leadership structure is in place to ensure continuity. Council will conduct a comprehensive recruitment process for the next CAO. The search will focus on identifying a leader with experience managing growth, delivering major infrastructure, and leading a high-performing municipal organization. Further updates will be provided as the recruitment process progresses.

Thank you to Councillor @RobWardCGY and the Lakeview Community Association for the thoughtful gift of the 2026 calendar. Loved flipping through the pages and seeing the pride and spirit that make Lakeview a special part of Calgary. Proudly displaying it in the mayor's office! – at Calgary, Alberta

Congratulations @RobWardCGY and #yyccc! Thank you for listening to Calgarians!!!
Promise made, promise kept 🤝 Today, City Council and I voted to fully repeal blanket rezoning. - restoring the zoning that existed prior to 2024. We also introduced new, tighter rules for R-CG builds to better reflect community concerns: • Height reduced from 11m → 10m 📏 • Zero lot lines eliminated 🚫 • Lot coverage reduced from 60% → 55% 🏡 Going forward, all R-CG applications will require City Council approval - bringing your voice back into the decision-making process 🗳️ #yyccc

Ward 11 Coun. Rob Ward says residents don't feel like they're being heard anymore. He says his goal is to "put us onto the path of restoring trust." Ward 11 has had 86 development permits enabled by citywide rezoning, the second most out of the city's 14 wards.

Wow nothing like showing the facts. Thanks @RobWardCGY
Yesterday in Council there was a claim that “it was a bit of a wash” between people who put in favour but meant they were opposed and people who put opposed but were in favour, and that it would only change it 1 or 2%. That is FALSE. The difference is 197 (206-9). The actual shift is 8.46%. This is why I took the time to read every single submission before the public hearing, facts matter.

Thank you for questioning this @RobWardCGY This is clearly a major issue for Calgarians and needs to be cleared up.
I’m concerned that Calgary’s public submission process on blanket rezoning repeal has confused residents and led to misinterpreted feedback. After personally reviewing all submissions, I found strong support for repeal and am calling for clearer engagement to ensure residents’ voices are accurately heard. See full release attached. #yyccc
