I love this film from England, 1901. We’re close enough that it’s not just a crowd of people. You can see all the individual personalities of the children showing off, jostling their friends and pulling faces to the camera. It’s worth watching twice.

Pay and conditions for supply teachers are abysmal. Many are paid below the minimum pay rate on national scales, not able to pay into Teachers Pension Scheme whilst agencies make huge profits. Would I,retired teacher, formerly paid at UPS3 , want to risk my health? Not one bit.

Bruce Forsyth and Norman Wisdom at the London Palladium (3rd December 1961). Due to an Equity strike, they (as members of the Variety Artistes' Federation who weren't on strike) were the only turns on that week's edition of Sunday Night at the London Palladium ....

Why did 265 Conservative MPs vote down an amendment to stop private water companies from dumping raw sewage into the UK’s rivers and coastlines? I’m genuinely baffled 🤷‍♂️

Emma Raducanu WOW! Apparently even Gavin Williams is a big tennis fan! He says he's always loved the game ever since he saw Marcus Rashford score a century at Twickenham in straight sets on the PGA tour.

👏 If you require people to have photo ID to vote but don't provide free photo ID, you are requiring people to pay to vote 👏

As it's Census Day, a reminder that in 1911, Emily Wilding Davison hid in a cupboard in Parliament so that she could register that as her location at a time when women couldn't vote. There's a brass plaque inside the cupboard now to mark the protest. parliament.uk/about/living-h…

If @jessphillips were my MP I would feel relieved and proud; she talks sense every time I see her but partic about her professional area of expertise, domestic violence. The police reaction in Clapham Common yday was very badly judged and ill-conceived #Marr

For those who were sceptical about the scale of this issue Changing the date PP is calculated will cost a single LA £600k Multiply that up & then add in academies & it’s hundreds of millions @educationgovuk is making huge savings at the expense of the most vulnerable pupils

This little dog was found in St Donats Has a wound on its back where chip has been removed. Think it was abandoned after being stolen and realising it was older than they thought. Please circulate in case anyone recognises it. Could have been taken from anywhere in the country

Short thread on how DfE sneaked out a £250 million cut to school budgets in the middle of a pandemic and how it will impact the poorest and most vulnerable pupils No publicity, no great public announcement as @educationgovuk cut £1/4 billion from its Pupil Premium budget

So 2021 ks1 sats cancelled (teacher assessment instead), year 4 times tables test optional, but ks2 says going ahead (not GPS paper) and phonics still on. Why are there any national tests at all given some areas had huge disruption? Cornwall/Isle of Wight quids in best results!
