CFA. Caution: will tweet a lot (of bad opinions) about sports (NFL/MLB), sabermetrics, movies (especially 00s comedies), and television. Sometimes my dogs too.

They just have to raze the land in Indy and start over. New FO, new staff, see if you can trade Jones, get some picks back on Sauce, Buckner and Ward have value, *maybe* JT if the deal is right. Otherwise it's 9-8/8-9 for the next few years

Continue to make tweaks and improvements as I get closer to putting these new CB metrics into production. But I know what the people want: leaderboards! Here it is, this time sorted by Phase 1 (pre-throw) + Phase 2 (throw-to-arrival) combined. Through Week 5.
This isn’t quite ready for primetime yet, but I want to share progress on a player-tracking cornerback metric I’ve been working on this offseason I’m really excited about. It compares corners to ghost defenders to measure the effectiveness of their pre-throw positioning.

Think you can make better game management decisions than an NFL coach? I built CoachSim to put that to the test. Make the call in real NFL situations, then see the numbers behind the decision. coachsim.app

Site is now live (shaunnewkirk.github.io/WR-Ar…), will have a write up soon. You can pick receivers, change the axis, filter any year from 2022-2025 (and some 2026 early data) or career, info on archetypes, etc. All data is from @FantasyPtsData (you should subscribe to them)
Working on an idea using Fantasy Points Data to do some PCA for receivers. Just for fun, here is Marvin Harrison Jr

I present to you my personal hitting metric: BPPA (Bases Per Plate Appearance) It simply answers the question, how many bases do you obtain each time you step to the plate? Total Bases+SB+BB+HBP-CS-K-GIDP)/ Plate Appearances. Here's the top 25 compared to wOBA. (A thread)

1) ASS isn't a PFF stat, and the stats mentioned in this tweet aren't at all analogous to PFF player grades, nor have a charting process at all related to anything being said in this video 2) A first read refers to a side/area of the field that the QB looks at first. There's obvious uncertainty here, but we have always acknowledged this from the first article we ever published on the topic. Despite that, we've always found the version of that stat that we chart to be slightly more predictive of production than regular target shares. (Though the two stats are usually very similar for most WRs!) 3) ASS only tries to measure one aspect of WR play. It is less predictive of production on its own than basically every good volume/production stat for this reason. (We've never been shy about saying this, either). It's very good at predicting whether a receiver will be targeted on a route, but it can't tell you anything about the volume/variety/difficulty of routes that receiver can run, their catch radius/ball skills, anything they can do after the catch, or anything else besides whether they gained separation on that play. Links to detailed reading on all of this are below, for anyone who's interested.
Anyone who swears by stats like the "ASS" stuff and "1st read target rate" need to watch this. Anyone grading this stuff is GROSSLY unqualified and has a FRACTION of the information they need to properly log the info. It's bullshit.

Sham interview process for Harbaugh when they presumably could have had their pick of any of these guys
Hard to see the Harbaugh era in LA not ending in him being fired or a mutual parting after an underwhelming few seasons. And then they probably just give McDaniel the job.

UPDATE: This has been submitted to the Chrome Web Store for review. It’s in the hands of Google now.
This offseason I made a Chrome extension for NFL Pro that allows you to search all-22 clips using nflverse play-by-play data. Want to see all of Drake Maye’s passes over 20 air yards when the wind was 15mph or higher? Literally no one can stop you.

Alright this one is wild. If I showed you this image, you'd never believe where the balls goes a second later.
Replying to @JmoneysteckNFL
Again I just find myself at a loss for words. They're not asking a lot of him mentally. only two real reads on this play. Both of them are open at the top of his drop and the ball still finds the checkdown. He just refuses to try any sort of difficult throw from the pocket.
