Certainly interesting that many of the biggest and best movies of the year are all grappling with living in a post-truth existence, we're all spinning narratives for ourselves and the world that we cannot necessarily complete

writing a culture book on the premise what if ben affleck had directed the force awakens
Ben Affleck confirms that he was approached by Lucasfilm to direct STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.
“Yeah, they came to me and asked me, hey are you interested in this… I thought I like Star Wars and I’m a fan, but I’m not the person to direct this movie. Someone who has more passion for this is going to do a better job… I don’t know if I could make a great version of Star Wars or reinvent this. There’s a lot of challenges to reinventing that. In fact, you’ve seen it play out. It hasn’t been easy for them to reinvent that franchise. Someone have done really well. Then you got this whole fan base that’s got its own very strong opinions.”

"The Departed" is a pretty silly movie. Jack Nicholson gets worried about a cop in his crew. His crew is like 5 guys where 4 of them don't really speak English and one of them is brand new and just dropped out of the state police academy
It’s fine to eat the popcorn that rises above the top of the bag before the movie starts, that’s the Baron’s Delight. But you must be weary of digging too greedily into the popcorn inside the bag before the previews even end, that is the Duke’s Lament

For Tom Cruise’s first GQ cover shoot in twenty years, we proposed an unusual stunt. We’d have the movie star walk, in plain sight, down Hollywood Boulevard, tourists and all. The result? A little bit of danger, just the way Cruise likes it. gq.visitlink.me/DRQ2-q

the first person to figure out you could eat in front of the tv must've been like fuck yeah fuck yes
Rewatched Edge of Tomorrow. It’s so much fun with a great Cruise fish out of water performance (it actually got me excited for Digger), but I was most struck by how much I miss Bill Paxton. We just don’t have guys like him anymore. He truly had the secret sauce

Finishing season 4 of Better Call Saul is making me look at Walter White in a slightly different way. I always thought he was a terrible person (and he is), but if you’re looking at him from the point of view of Better Call Saul, he comes across more as a chaotic force of divine retribution to the protagonists. To Gustavo, he’s a similar seemingly mild manner citizen that is actually a secret evil genius who beats him at his own game. To Mike, he’s a dark mirror version of Werner (which is the first name of the real Heisenberg) who brings him nothing but strife. And to Jimmy, he’s another larger than life genius like his brother, Chuck, who constantly makes him feel powerless. It’s like Walter is a Homeric character preprogrammed by divine forces with just the right negative qualities to compel him to carry out justice against these characters without his knowledge, and once that was done, he was no longer useful, and his empire quickly disappeared.
