Safe emergency general surgery - @asgbi statement ➡️ doi.org/10.1093/bjs/znae303 Recommendations for safe and efficient EGS care 1⃣Safe staffing levels are essential, defined by EGS admissions and inpatient volume, not hospital size 2⃣ EGS services should be available and contracted 24/7, including for both consultant surgeons and anaesthetists 3⃣ There should be a lead clinician for EGS with allocated contracted time 4⃣ Daily input from geriatricians for older patients, irrespective of procedure, should be available Work by Hannah Javanmard-Emamghissi, ASGBI EGS Collaborative #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery @RCPSGTrainees @aecirujanos @SEIQuirurgica @iss_sic #MedicalTechniques @BJSAcademy @young_bjs @BJSOpen @des_winter @evanscolorectal @robhinchliffe1 @bplwijn @MalinASund @nfmkok @TejedorPat @paulo_sutt @PVaughanShaw @JJEarnshaw @juliomayol @ksoreide #SoMe4Trauma #emgensurg @WSESurgery @NELANews #EmLap @ASGBI_MA #some4peds #emergency #acutecare

Big upgrade to the award this year! Definitely worth applying - especially now it can be completed from anywhere in the world. Seems unfair consultants are excluded!

The entire conversation on robotic surgery is too polarizing… the critics don’t use the 🤖at all and the supporters feel like it needs to be used for everything IMO there needs to be more robot ‘centrists’ out there who will say it’s good for some things and not others.

We thank @RCSnews for this clear statement, with safe surgical practice and trainees at its core SCPs have a well defined scope of practice: performing parts of a lap cholecystectomy with or without supervision has never been acceptable We are thankful for the reminder to consultant colleagues to use every theatre opportunity to prioritise training the surgeons of tomorrow 🔗 tinyurl.com/RCSST
