These are the eight charges in the Massie filing: 1. Starting the Iran war without legal authority: Massie alleges the operation began without a declaration of war, specific congressional authorization, or an emergency created by an attack on the United States. 2. Defying Congress on Iran: He says Hegseth continued the war after both chambers directed U.S. forces to withdraw. 3. Exceeding War Powers deadlines: He alleges the administration continued hostilities beyond the War Powers Resolution’s 60-day limit and possible 30-day withdrawal period. 4. Failing to protect civilians: The article alleges Hegseth disregarded laws intended to minimize civilian casualties. (Minab Girls School - double tap Day 1) 5. Extrajudicial killings at sea: Massie alleges the military used lethal force against suspected drug traffickers instead of law enforcement, causing at least 221 deaths, and cites alleged follow-up strikes on survivors and failures to rescue people in distress. 6. Retaliating against Senator Mark Kelly: He alleges the Defense Department used its authority to intimidate or punish Kelly for protected speech criticizing military orders. 7. Seizing Venezuela’s leaders: The article alleges Hegseth directed the capture of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores without lawful authority. 8. Conducting an unauthorized war in Yemen: Massie alleges the Yemen operation lacked congressional authorization and an imminent threat justification, violated reporting requirements, and involved unlawful strikes on civilians and protected sites.

In May 1958, CIA pilot Allen Pope was shot down and captured while flying a Douglas B-26 Invader during the Indonesian Crisis. After learning that Pope was being held on house arrest at a jungle resort on the slopes of Mt. Merapi, and had some freedom of movement outside, the CIA’s Technical Services Staff came up with a plan to air-drop an inflatable airplane to him, so he could rescue himself. According to authors Robert Wallace and Keith Melton, CIA turned to the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, which had been working to develop an inflatable rubber plane called the Inflatoplane. Several prototypes were built for the US military, including single-seat and dual-seat designs. The single-seat model could be packed up in a mere 44 cubic feet with a 40-hp engine and propeller strapped on top. There was also an onboard air compressor which would maintain positive pressure during flight, even if the aircraft were punctured by several .30 caliber bullets. The Inflatoplane had relatively low top speeds and range but was considered more than sufficient for the Pope rescue scenario. Inflatoplanes were designed to be filled with compressed air from a canister, but the CIA worked instead to fill the fuselage with chemical pellets. When Pope reached the aircraft, all he would need to do was pour water into the reservoir, which would react with the chemical pellets, quickly filling the rubber fuselage with an inert gas. Pope could then fly himself to safety. The prototype was tested and ready, but the rescue operation was ultimately canceled for unknown reasons. Pope remained under house arrest until 1962, when he was released after diplomatic negotiations. Some reports indicate two paramilitary CIA officers assisted him in escaping to safety. Pope returned to service with the CIA afterwards as a pilot on covert missions. Years later when another mission offered the potential of using the inflatable airplane, CIA technicians pulled it from the warehouse only to discover that the rubber was dried up and cracked due to lack of maintenance. The prototype was discarded, never to be used again. #cia #indonesia #prisoner #rescue #escape

I’ve known many other defense secretaries, starting with Cap Weinberger, who served as defense secretary under Reagan. I can say without fear of contradiction that Pete Hegseth is the stupidest and least qualified of them all. He is a danger to the entire world. He must be impeached.

On this day in 1860, Abraham Lincoln, 51, wins the U.S. presidency. Although his name is absent from the ballot in 10 slave states, Lincoln wins a majority of the popular vote in the North. Within 45 days, South Carolina will leave the Union.

Good little explainer of coffin corner
COFFIN CORNER: WHEN THERE’S ALMOST NO ROOM FOR ERROR At high altitudes, an aircraft can reach a critical point where its stall speed and maximum operating speed become dangerously close. Even slight turbulence, a sharp turn, or an attempt to climb can push it beyond these limits. The safest recovery may be to descend, increasing the margin between the two limits and restoring a safer flight envelope. That’s why pilots call it the Coffin Corner , a situation where even a small mistake can have catastrophic consequences. Note: Coffin corner is a possible aerodynamic factor, not a confirmed cause of the Learjet 60 crash.

Still need about 13-14 Republicans in the Senate to convict and remove Trump. Less than 15 people are going to be all that is keeping that criminal asshole in office.
