FWIW: The corrections officer, Emanuel Ludovic Mbuangi Landila, is an Angolan national who illegally crossed the border in 2019 and later received temporary work authorization while his asylum claim was pending. After that claim was denied he was required to leave the country but did not, remaining in the US illegally, and he did not disclose his status to the sheriff. Following the incident ICE determined the sheriff was employing multiple illegal aliens and cancelled its contract, removing all ICE detainees from the jail. Ironically, had ICE maintained the contract with Sheriff Joyce, Landila would have been detained in that same jail pending deportation.
