Astros owner Jim Crane kept the GM search “shrouded in secrecy,” and only allowed a few of his closest confidants in interviews before hiring Randy Flores.

Let's see who he hires as the Astros' new manager and what they can accomplish in the limited pre-lockout offseason. Based on last offseason, I don't see any way that Flores will be worse than Dana Brown was. That alone should be an improvement we can all get behind.

Let's be clear - we managed to avoid what I would consider doomsday scenarios including Ausmus and Rizzo. This doom and gloom over an unknown is for the birds. We have no proof that Flores will be any worse than Kleine, or any other candidate for that matter.

We all have our reservations and concerns about the running of the front office, but what if Flores' experience being around baseball ops proves more valuable than Kleine's contracts experience? I don't know if it will, but perhaps this ISN'T just a yes man, and he's qualified?

It *feels* like as Astros fans, we should probably chill out on this GM hire. Flores was a sought after candidate by more than just Houston. Everybody got attached to the Kleine name, but which of us knew who these guys were three weeks ago? I know I didn't.

Just a thought: Could the holdup of #Astros hiring Matt Kleine be his title? Trend is President/Baseball Operations, not General Manager. Possibly old-school Crane insists it be GM. Plus, Crane's son Jared is President of the club & he doesn't want any confusion re pecking order.
