New paper @IJSNEMJournal, in which @mackinprof & I discuss snake oil vendors. They're still around, selling fad diets, supplements, & other quick fixes on baseless claims. Only skepticism can save us.

🚨We are recruiting women in the Greater #Manchester area for a study on the effects of menstrual cycle phase & oral contraceptive pill (OCP) use on #exerciseperformance. Must train 3x week & have either 1) natural menstrual cycle (21-35 days) or 2) take a combined monophasic OCP

As a former researcher in the area, I find it VERY troubling to see a speaker at #SSAC23 saying that menstrual cycle affects injury risk, recovery, and advocating for 'training around the cycle'.
There is ZERO evidence for this.
Don't do it.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk
