There’s been a sickening shift in the direction of the Republican Party over the last decade. It’s not just the increasingly open racism, antisemitism, and even Holocaust denial we’ve seen from some Republican candidates, officials, and activists. It’s the reaction from their own party. There was a time when this kind of rhetoric would’ve rightfully ended someone’s political career. Now we’re seeing prominent Republicans excuse it, minimize it, or stand by the despicable people responsible. What happens when behavior that should be easily condemned, becomes something the GOP are increasingly willing to tolerate. We’re seeing consequences for bigotry and antisemitism disappear in real time. This IS the Republican Party.
