Did anyone else notice how downbeat Mark Chapman was doing BBC Match of the Day? He's great at his job and is usually warm, friendly and joking with the pundits but he looked miserable, not even a single smile. Felt like something had happened. I hope everything's ok with him.
Ok. So I was clearly not the only one to notice. Not sure if it deserves an article in the paper though. He might be going through something personal so needs his space.
✍️ “Mark Chapman, normally such agreeable and enjoyable TV company, had the bearing throughout of a shot-down airman in a hostage video.”
The celebrated broadcaster delivered his intros and questions on Match of the Day with a minimum of sparkle ...and Alan Tyers is concerned ⬇️

United should sack Carrick and then immediately appoint him as interim manager to sort this mess out
4 good performances in a row now. He's still weak in duels but he offers plenty else to the Liverpool team. It's when he loses the basics (touch, passing accuracy etc) is when he struggles - but looks in better rhythm now than before.
Barcola did this on purpose to make it harder to block. He uses his flair in intelligent ways, not to show off but to find solutions. Also I want to praise Isak again for his intelligence in not overrunning like many would but to hang back so then he could come onto the ball.

Nyoni has been our best youngster this season. Impressed in every game he's played be it sub or starting. Always impactful on and off the ball. Rio gets his name chanted often, fans need to give Trey his flowers too. Not just a top talent, he's already a consistent performer.

Man United with one of the worst ownership combos: American capitalists piling debt onto the club and a right-wing British billionaire out of his depth.
He's also had to deal with a mini-injury crisis and an unbalanced squad.
And tbf the loss to the corrupt cheats was with 10 men and even with 4 senior attackers injured Liverpool were still the better team (marginally) before the red. Iraola has done very well.
Well first 30 minutes that was Liverpool. 2nd half yeah Brighton were better but still didn't really create big chances. Brighton's best chance was Ayari first half.
You just know Carrick went running to daddy Ferguson asking him what he should do about Bruno. That weakness is probably at the heart of why the squad lost respect for him. That and the counterattacking football and his preference not to press cohesively.
It'll probably be Howe or Nagelsman but it would be funny if Southgate got it. Perhaps I'm being harsh because the culture at Man United is a big issue and Southgate was good at man management at England but getting United to play attractive winning football might be beyond him.

Barcola's alertness to danger defensively reminded me of Mané.
He'd see an overload about to happen at the backpost and sprint to be in position. Sometimes the ball didn't go there but if it had he would've been there to mop up and stop a chance. Made 10 defensive contributions.
