Same issues arose with the hip implant case and we still have not addressed it as a country. The Health Ministry is paralyzed on major policy issues pertaining to regulation of the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.
June 19. Sri Lanka's regulator pulls three India-made heart stent models from every hospital.
October 5. India's cabinet secretariat asks its own health ministry to look into it.
Sri Lanka's NMRA cited improper positioning, dislodgement, acute thrombosis and stents that failed to expand. The models are made by Meril Life Sciences. India moved after Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ajeet Gopchade wrote in on September 29, citing media reports from Colombo.
Everyone reads this as an export quality scare. That misses the real story.
The alarm came from the importing country. India learned about a possible problem with its own device from a neighbour's circular, then from a newspaper, then from an MP's letter.
Now look at where this goes. The MP's ask was traceability: which patients got which stent, and who follows up. A recall only works if you can find the people already carrying the device.
Sri Lanka can pull stock off a shelf. Nobody can pull a stent out of an artery.

A welcome step towards transparency in healthcare billing.
But transparency is not affordability, price is not quality, and issuing directives is not implementation.
Patients need more than displayed rates. They deserve assured quality, appropriate care, itemised billing, effective grievance redressal and protection against unaffordable expenditure.
The Clinical Establishments Act is not uniformly applicable across India. State-level enforcement remains crucial.
From a UHC perspective, the real test is whether this measure improves financial protection under SDG 3.8.2 and reduces out-of-pocket expenditure.
A useful administrative reform, certainly. But displaying the price of healthcare is not the same as ensuring access to healthcare.
Let transparency be a step towards systemic reform, not mistaken for its achievement.
#UHC #PatientRights #HealthcareQuality #FinancialProtection – at Delhi, India
In a push to make healthcare billing more transparent, the Centre has asked states and union territories to ensure that hospitals and other clinical establishments prominently display the rates they charge for services and facilities.

Uttarakhand has built a strong identity as a tourism capital. The next ambition is to turn that strength into broader economic growth.

Common man should be happy to know that the government is ensuring that quality medicines reach hospitals and consumers. It was observed that some drugmakers suppressed information about the cancellation of their manufacturing licences to secure supply orders from the government and other Healthcare agencies.
Timely disclosure of license cancellations and suspension is critical to prevent misuse and to strengthen the monitoring mechanism between the centre and states.
Now all states shall furnish monthly NSQ data in the prescribed format within the stipulated timeline and share the data with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation ( @CDSCO_INDIA_INF ).

The tragic deaths of five women after childbirth in Kota are a stark reminder that poor-quality & spurious medicines can have devastating consequences. As per this report, strong drug regulation, quality control & strict accountability are essential.

Sharing my latest investigation into the #Kota deaths-a story that is not just about a spurious drug but about a 3-yr regulatory trail that nobody stopped.

Death in a Vial by Teena Thacker @Teensthack
An oxytocin vial that allegedly contained little more than water has laid bare many uncomfortable truths
Spurious drugmakers continue to flourish, regulatory enforcement remains painfully weak, and as organised pharma companies quietly exit unviable markets, shady players willing to cut corners move in.

What began as a powerful vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi to protect India’s daughters from cervical cancer is rapidly evolving into a defining milestone in the nation’s preventive healthcare journey. In just three months, the nationwide HPV vaccination drive has achieved nearly 50 lakh doses, reflecting unprecedented scale, urgency, and commitment to safeguarding young lives.
Under the decisive leadership of Union Health Minister Shri @JPNadda, the campaign has gained strong momentum, with Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat achieving 100% coverage and Mizoram reaching 93% of its target population. This progress highlights the robustness of India’s public health system and the tireless efforts of frontline health workers across the country.
Backed by global scientific evidence, including findings published in The Lancet demonstrating a dramatic reduction in cervical cancer incidence and precancerous lesions following HPV vaccination, India’s drive stands firmly on proven impact. It is more than a vaccination campaign, it is prevention at scale, protection for an entire generation, and a decisive step towards a cervical cancer-free India.
