When the opportunity to debate the Forest (Conservation) Bill 2023 arose in the Rajya Sabha, the opposition leaders chose to boycott the proceeding, neglecting their parliamentary responsibility and showing a priority for political dominance rather than public welfare. Mere expression of dissent on Twitter becomes meaningless when they possess the actual power to halt harmful government actions. Regrettably, this will likely be remembered as the bleakest day in the Indian environmental law, leaving the people of India feeling profoundly betrayed by the opposition MPs. Their infatuation with personal ego and arrogance overrides their duty as parliamentarians.

Citizens urge Rajya Sabha MPs not to pass FCA amendment bill that is making radical changes to India’s 43 year old Forest Conservation Act & which is giving Central govt unchecked powers to divert forest land for any purpose as they want

Citizens are extremely upset that a Bill proposing radical changes to India’s 43 year old Forest Conservation Act 1980 came closer to becoming legislation when it was passed in Lok Sabha in a hurry with barely any discussion😡

This is an interesting reply of an RTI application requesting details of the high-powered committee chaired by secy, @moefcc constituted under the recent NGT directions to revisit Environmental Clearance of Great Nicobar development project and copy of the final report.Made me wonder if this is an exception taken in this case or becoming a standard practice now?
Anyone else got similar response to RTIs seeking for environmental information on infrastructure/ industrial projects elsewhere in India? We are documenting such instances of denying crucial environment & biodiversity information by authorities, as part of research on access to environmental information. Any leads will be extremely useful.

Field of conservation in India is fraught with such incidents. Many have quit the field. Many, science altogether. Is funding, job, mental health not enough that women have to deal with sexual abuse too? We are talking about women in STEM? We should first talk about their safety
