This is the utter disregard and disrespect we have for our environment/ nature/trees which are the essence of life, our existence.
A perfectly healthy Peepal tree at Arya Samaj Mandir, Kasturba Nagar, has been hacked down, not because it is dead or dangerous, but because the management wants it gone. And Forest Department, @MCD_Delhi & their horticulture departments are apparently only too happy to oblige.

Ashamed to be part of Uni I once proudly called my own. As a student I was on streets during Mandal Commission movement, standing up for what I believed in. V were taught universities r spaces for debate/dissent/democracy. Saddened to see my alma mater drift away fm those values.
Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action. Such activities can also pose serious risks to students’ personal safety and significantly impact their academic progress and professional opportunities. Accordingly, all students are urged to stay away from Jantar Mantar and to prioritise their safety and compliance with the law. Furthermore, you are advised to exercise caution as a significant amount of fake and misleading content is being created and circulated to fuel the situation.

If you want to see how urban India is broken, consider Defence Colony. Even 15 years ago, it was a relatively quiet leafy neighbourhood of bungalows of retired defence staff (thus, the name). Someone had the bright idea that in the name of 'mixed development' (almost always a

Tree Transplantation is a death warrant!
A court-appointed expert committee has sharply criticised the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) handling of an ongoing tree transplantation exercise linked to the controversial Satbari road-widening project, warning that poor technical execution, inadequate preparation and a near-total failure of already transplanted saplings risk rendering the exercise futile. There’s a hornbill couple that comes everyday to @rsuri54’s balcony on the branches of this beautiful tree that practically enter their living room. Your next shoot with coffee and an assistant🙋‍♀️
After hearing a lot of buzz on social media and in the newspapers, I went to Lodhi Garden this morning. As soon as I reached there, the bird flew away, and all the birdwatchers left. How heartbreaking it was! Following a birder's advice, I set up my camera on a tripod and waited alone. A few people kept coming and going, asking, "Did you see it?" 🙂 Finally an about hour-long wait wasn't disappointing. Much needed. During the 1st lockdown, waste workers of #DefenceColony were thrown out of jobs by RWA. From @rsuri54 taking matter to NHRC in the difficult times to yrs of persistent effort by @Bharati09, this recognition for them under #NAMASTE feels hard fought & overdue⬇️
Delhi issuing ID cards to waste pickers under the NAMASTE scheme is a forthcoming step & also to introspect how long India’s cities have depended on invisible labour while denying workers dignity, safety and recognition. More than 13,000 waste pickers surveyed by MCD shows the scale of an informal workforce that quietly sustains urban sanitation and recycling systems every day. These workers reduce landfill waste, recover recyclables and lower municipal costs, yet most still work without social security, healthcare, insurance or legal protection. The real question is whether “formalisation” will go beyond surveys and ID cards. The NAMASTE scheme was envisioned to eliminate hazardous sanitation work, prevent deaths, ensure mechanisation, provide safety gear, skilling and social protection, not merely create another database. Recognition yes, but dignity will only come when waste pickers are treated as essential urban workers with rights, protections and respect, not as invisible labour entering cities through the back gate. hindustantimes.com/cities/de… via @appriseParas @htTweets

Highly toxic colored industrial wastewater is being continuously discharged into the Kondli Drain near Sector 59 Metro Station (Shramik Kunj side), Sector 66, Noida. This poisonous effluent is flowing straight into the Yamuna River, worsening the already critical pollution crisis. This is a clear violation of environmental laws. Immediate action required by @noida_authority @uppcbofficial @dmgbnagar @CeoNoida
