One of the (many) reasons the attacks on Abdul failed is that Michigan voters would hear politicians (and plenty of pundits!) matter-of-factly assert that he's "hateful" "divisive" "extreme" "anti-Semitic" "dangerous" etc. Then they'd actually hear Abdul sound like...this:

Abdul El-Sayed received 91.78% of the votes in Detroit. Mike Rogers got 5.43%. The vile campaign to use anti-Arab racism to get Black voters to turn against Democrats failed miserably. For reference, Kamala Harris had 89.70% in Detroit in 2024.
