Charles Kushner, a New Jersey real-estate developer and the father of Trump’s son-in-law Jared, became the U.S. Ambassador to France in 2025. Introducing himself to the French public in a social-media video, he said that he knew “a limited amount about France.” He does not speak French; he has never lived abroad. He served time in federal prison for illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering. The last crime, a blackmail scheme that involved hiring a prostitute to seduce his sister’s husband, suggests a dubious approach to conflict management. Yet Trump saw fit to hand him one of the most coveted posts in American diplomacy, the seat once held by Thomas Jefferson and by Benjamin Franklin, stewarding the relationship with America’s oldest ally.
Since taking up his post, Kushner has earned a reputation for meddling in domestic French politics at sensitive moments. “I don’t see how he can possibly affect the opinions of the French government by regularly irritating them,” the president of the American Academy of Diplomacy said. Lauren Collins reports on Charles Kushner’s Ambassadorship and a new cohort of MAGA diplomats who are underqualified for their posts and overeager to impress the boss back in Washington: newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

This person is 62 years old. She has spent more money on botox, filler, and hair coloring than the median American income. A perfectly fine thing to do if you can afford it but don’t pretend to be in touch with the working class with a 6 figure face.

Arteta's influence? Overloads on one flank & opening 1v1 / 2v2 on opposite flank
The eyes suggested both managers tried to open a flank & create an overload on the other. The pass networks back up this view in respect of Iraola and Hürzeler
Note the pass networks below from Liverpool v Brighton ⬇️ @Statsbomb
Further to todays episode of Review, post Brighton, and recent shows @Knox_Harrington and I have done on @TheAnfieldWrap Iraola's change in use of one of the central midfielders roles, whilst also opening up a flank vs LASK, Brentford, Villareal and Brighton (1st half) has been fascinating
The eyes suggested it, the pass networks backed it up and then Alexis MacAllister in his post game interview after Villareal confirmed it. "At the beginning the idea was maybe to play a little bit more on the right, open up a little bit more and play with Rio"
Hürzeler went direct early focusing on Diego Gomez aerial ability early so that skews things slightly. Brighton settled down a bit later in the half. Throughout the game they mixed up their variation in short build up and long balls well.
Interestingly Hürzeler switches this at HT to ensure 2nd half overloads on Brighton's left and opens up Brighton's right flank. To change the flanks at half time poses the opposition an immediate issue straight after the half time team talk.
Iraola has used the left side overload in the past 4 games. Gravenberch vs LASK & Brighton, Szobozslai vs Brentford & Nyoni after 30 mins vs Villareal, all operated in a left sided central midfield role
Iraola's decision to overload on the left in this run of games and open up the right flank for Rio, Munoz, Rio (again) then Barcola respectively has been fascinating (and successful)
Arsenal regularly overload on their right flank with 3/4/5 or even 6 players at times opening up the opposite flank
With the 1v1 ability of Rio, Munoz and Barcola it seems Liverpool are trying to utilise Florian Wirtz's combination play with left hand side overloads whilst ensuring the right hand side can be opened up for the 1v1 dribblers and pace of Munoz, Rio and Barcola to have more space
2nd half vs Brighton understandably Liverpool control the scoreboard dropping deeper with a slightly broken team.
The back 4 with 2 central midfielders in front 2nd half were solid allowing the front 4 to break & try to grab a 3rd.
Iraola’s left side overload & opening the right flank is one to keep an eye on
