Soon begins the season where I will eat my bodyweight in plum jam-filled puff pastry and be happiest man alive. Thanks, Finland.

Had a good laugh that apparently Anthropic is trying to woo Finnish institutional investors to participate in the IPO. Must be pretty difficult, that IPO, if someone remembers that Finland exists.

Can't wait that our pension funds turn out to be the exit liquidity for Amazon and Google.

We watched the remastered film Comet in Moominland (the original is from 1992) and it was very enjoyable. Can recommend.

Today in the Finnish village of Tyrnävä a 4000m² potatoe storage caught on fire and more than 4 million kgs of potatoes was destroyed. That's over a quarter of Finlands seed potatoes.

The oil glut -- olive oil, that's it. Wholesale Spanish olive oil prices fall to 5½-year low. Spain, the world’s top producer, mandates compulsory stockpiling of ~12% of the new crop (harvest goes from Nov to Feb) in an effort to support the price farmers get for their olive.

The US turning on data centers would be a nice opportunity if we had the ability and intent to drastically add power production within a few years.

Long-Term Capital Management vibes.
JUST IN: Leopold Aschenbrenners Fund (Situational Awareness) has reportedly officially blown up… These are the current (now liquidated) holdings: - $MU bought at $1,153, now $703, (-39%) - $CORZ bought at $25.6, now $11.1, (-56%) - $SNDK bought at $2,268, now $874, (-61%) - $NBIS bought at $273, now $121, (-55%) - $CRWV bought at $99, now $42, (-57%) - $BE bought at $301, now $165, (-45%) Use him as a lesson why you NEVER over-leverage into high risk positions. That concludes an end of an era…

It was marketed as: - 2 years until permanent underclass - you’ll all lose your jobs - your skills will be worthless - we’re going to replace you - your entire career is now a $20/month subscription All in an already terrible job market btw. Possibly the most important technology humanity has ever built, with some of the worst marketing imaginable. The labs completely failed communicating the tech, miserably bad and only improved just end of last year. How did anyone expect that to make people excited?
it's pretty bleak to me how unpopular AI is in spite of how transformatively useful it is

The age old tale of a giant fuck-up that ruins your reign. Trump could've just not start this stupid war and enjoy the AI boom, retire in two years and shitpost until he dies but he did this lol.

Europeans will absolutely learn nothing from this totally true statement of course and continue to fantasise about "who they would vote for if they were American" and have elaborate opinions on American gun laws and healthcare.
Abdul El-Sayed, who on Wednesday morning was declared the new senator in Michigan, had a fiery exchange on Tuesday evening with James Matthews, Sky News’ US correspondent. “Are you registered to vote in the state of Michigan?” Dr El-Sayed asked Matthews, to which the reporter said no. “So why would I care to have a conversation with you?... I don’t care what you think or the questions you ask.” 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/…

This is such an incredibly stupid thing Europeans do.
With voting underway in the US midterm elections, four times as many Britons say they would support the Democrats than the Republicans, if they were in the United States Democrats: 42% Republicans: 10% Neither: 17% Don't know: 31%

Trump is at least honest about America's empire. The funny Uncle Joe bit is more insidious and I suspect many Europeans hating Trump so viciously is as much about his crass vulgarity as him making it impossible to remain a good imperial subject at the sleepy End of History.
Replying to @TimRuhr
Anyway, for us in Europe nothing changed and many Europeans have a pathological relationship with American politics and Trump in particular. For us, nothing will get better. And even in two years, America First, the trade war, Europoor etc will just continue.

All rejoicing by Europeans tonight is just petty resentment that might feel good but means nothing in the end. We are still part of the empire and still subservient.

Sure, this is a bloodbath, but once again it's important for Republicans to remember that it was the price to pay for a war that was started for no reason and that accomplished absolutely nothing of value except killing a bunch of people and making everyone poorer.
