US Deficits are bad, and big. BUT -- they're not a real solvable problem until the the Dems are willing to claim they're a problem. And willing to accept some spending cuts to make Reps accept raising taxes (on the rich! but not w/o SALT deductions).

Bucha is what pushed me to join the Ukrainian army.
I was there after its liberation. I decided: if I found a unit, I would go and serve. 1/

Slavery was abhorrent. Fact.
But to issue a formal apology today is dangerous virtue-signalling that could expose Britain to reparations costing us millions or even billions of pounds. This is very much how the Chagos disaster started under the Tories.
There is no good reason why people living in 21st Britain should pay for the wrongdoings of centuries ago.
And let’s also not forget the role that Britain played in ending slavery- often overlooked in our schools, museums and by the BBC.
And then there are the clear benefits of the British Empire. Investment, infrastructure, legal systems, education, healthcare- there was also much that was good. I write a lot about this in my best-selling book, ‘Patriot: Empire, betrayal and hope’.
Let’s teach history in a balanced and truthful way; not through the lens of political ideology.
And Burnham should stand up for 21st century Brits, not pay for the wrongs of 18th century slave-traders.

When folk 12 or more hours of sun, but reality gives only 10, or just 8 in winter, no majority of votes change that. Taking 6 year olds to 8 o’clock school in the dark is bad.
Switch school to 9am for November thru February, then have DST all year.

The market for software migration from legacy systems has been limited to $30B a year or so because migration is very expensive and maintenance is easier. Talking to older firms, there is a real backlog of scoped cheaper migration projects being unlocked by AI surprisingly fast

It used to be that when a man was accused of fraud and then committed suicide -- such as Ivar Kreuger, the Swedish match king in 1932 -- it was assumed that proved he was indeed a fraud. It took decades for conspiracy theories to emerge. Now, with Prof. Jason Arday, however ...

Jim Wilson was a close second to Dick Herrnstein, but his super weapon was uncanny accuracy in conveying the written or spoken word.
He wrote his books and articles longhand on legal pads. Dick (who coauthored Crime and Human Nature with Jim), reported that the legal pad pages had almost no strikeouts and that the difference between the first handwritten draft and the published version was seldom more than a few punctuation and syntactical tweaks.
I once watched him give a guest lecture at the University of Washington on a technical criminality issue. It was an hour of perfectly formed crystalline sentences with no "errs" or "umms," formed into logical paragraphs. And that was as true of his extemporaneous answers in Q&A as in the body of the lecture. All without a single piece of paper in his hand and clearly not memorized.
My question for Mr. Murray: Who were the most conversant famous people you ever met, those people who discussed in front of you a complex issue, or broad range of issues, fluently and effortlessly?
Looking at your list, I would guess Henry Kissinger, Milton Friedman, James Q. Wilson, and Charles Krauthammer.

Always said, when buying a house. I don’t give a rat’s ass what the race or ethnicity of the neighbors is. What I want to know, are people going to work.
Are they raising children with rules, boundaries, responsibility.
As one wise old motherfucker of an asshole explained to me. When you’re going to buy a house, look around. What are the kids like? That’s what your kids are going to be.
Mama T apparently gets that.
Congrats to the @SpaceX team on over 700 Falcon 9 flights!
SpaceX has now crossed 700 Falcon 9 launches
700 missions flown by a single rocket family, at a scale and pace that have completely transformed modern spaceflight
Starlink 15-16 marked the 700th mission on October 27, with Starlink 15-18 following as the 701st on October 31
Since its first flight in 2010, Falcon 9 has revolutionized space transportation through reusable rocket technology
What once took years now happens every few days
SpaceX has turned launching and landing rockets into routine spaceflight
And that's an absolutely extraordinary engineering achievement

America has politics backwards. We fight endlessly over the tiniest budget items (aid to Israel, quasi wars, etc.) while depoliticizing the largest ones (senior giveaways).

This is INSANE. Cisco’s president Jeetu Patel has given a 27-year-old engineer unlimited AI tokens to try to rewrite 98% of the company’s legacy code within 24 months, Fortune reports.

15. The uncovering of a Color Revolution plot in the USA led by embittered former USAID employees and ex-military members.
That’s a lot to be happening all at once, don’t you think?
And the USA is having midterm elections next week.
You know, if I was a conspiracy-minded type I might be connecting some dots here. 🧐
