❗️EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS! This is Hungary today! An attempt to extract incriminating testimony through arbitrary detention and mistreatment. Just like the political show trials of the 1950s… Below is a message written from prison by Balázs Bús, a political prisoner, former Fidesz mayor of Budapest’s 3rd district, and former Vice President of Hungary’s National Cultural Fund. „I am not afraid! For four months now, I have been wrongfully and unlawfully held in Szeged’s Csillag Prison by the Bács-Kiskun County Prosecutor’s Office, which has been intimidated (abused) and placed under the direct control of Péter Magyar. Although I have fully cooperated with the prosecution and answered every question, the political masterminds behind this show-trial-style prosecution want me to give testimony that contradicts not only the truth and reality, but also my faith. Non possum! To achieve this, they have continuously restricted my ability to communicate with the outside world since the very beginning of the proceedings, seeking to sever and destroy my relationships with my family and loved ones. I am grateful to everyone who stands by them during these evil times and supports us through their prayers. I am especially grateful for the solidarity of our Polish friends! There are no legitimate grounds for my detention. There is no risk of flight, as my lawyer and I informed the investigative authorities even before my arrest that I was at their disposal. The alleged risk of reoffending is equally false and ridiculous, as is the claim that I might interfere with the proceedings. The prosecutor handling my case knows this perfectly well. The investigating judge at the Kecskemét District Court performs no meaningful judicial scrutiny, since it is common knowledge that judges in Kecskemét approve 100% of prosecutors’ requests (which, of course, raises the question of why these judges are needed at all). What is even more disturbing is that this has created an unchecked concentration of power in the hands of prosecutors, enabling abuses of authority, as my own case clearly demonstrates. But, to quote the words of András Visky: “Does it even make sense to question legality in an age when lawlessness itself has been enshrined in law?” In his speeches in Parliament and in Kisvárda, Péter Magyar made it absolutely clear to the authorities what verdict he expects them to deliver. It is beyond any doubt that I am the victim of a politically orchestrated show trial. In 1956, my father was 22 years old. As a soldier stationed in Esztergom, he stood on the side of the revolution. He never joined the Communist Party. In 1956, my mother was 20 years old. She survived the volley of gunfire unleashed by the ÁVO communist state security forces in Kossuth Square. She never joined the Communist Party. In 1988, at the age of 22, I joined Fidesz to help put an end to the one-party system, the tyranny that restricted our freedoms, and the communist party-state that had devastated my parents’ generation. In 1986, forty years ago, the political officer at the Cegléd military barracks and military counterintelligence tried to force me into giving false testimony. They failed. And now, in 2026, at the age of 60, I have become a political prisoner of resurgent Bolshevik hatred and power. After 1956, the ideological predecessors of Péter Magyar executed the martyr József Kováts here, in Szeged’s Csillag Prison. Within these very walls, I pray for him and for all the revolutionaries who were sentenced and imprisoned in Csillag as part of the reprisals following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence.
