When Elon gave Starlink to Ukraine, it was clear the system was intended for civilian & defensive purposes only;
Using it offensively would be like turning a flak jacket into a sui**de vest.
Elon Musk was one of the first to give Ukraine meaningful assistance, providing Starlink for civilian use in the early stage of the war.
At the same time, most of Europe was still sending billions to Russia for oil and gas, yet these are the same people who lecture him for not wanting to prolong a war that has already killed hundreds of thousands.
The audacity!

What’s actually going on in Ukraine is that there is a massive incentive difference between the elites and the people.
The former have grown very rich off the hundreds of billions flowing to Ukraine, while the latter’s children are conscripted to die in trenches.

A young Muslim guy walks past a Christian preacher on the street and just stops.
He’s standing there listening to the words of Christ, and something hits him so hard almost like a epiphany and he starts saying he wants to surrender his life to Jesus and leave Islam.
I don’t know what to make of it. Part of me really hopes he’s sincere that something real just broke through. Another part of me can’t help wondering if I’m being naïve.
Is this genuine, or am I just cynical for questioning it?

Elon Musk explains why he had no choice but to get involved in building superintelligence (SI), and shares the two most important principles for making SI safer for humanity
“At least some percentage chance of it being an existential threat, but there's nothing I can do to stop it”
“I basically came to the conclusion I've got two choices, which is either be a participant or a spectator”
So Elon chose to participate and help shape SI in a good direction
And his approach to SI safety is very logical
“Yeah, curious, truth-seeking. I think these are important elements of safety”
Forcing SI to believe two contradictory things or making it lie could lead to extremely dangerous outcomes
Elon points to 2001: A Space Odyssey, where the ship's intelligence receives conflicting instructions, as an example of why we should never force SI to lie
But his reasoning about curiosity is even more interesting
A genuinely curious SI would want to foster humanity, to see how civilization develops, prospers and eventually becomes multiplanetary
Because a future where humanity expands across the stars is far more interesting than one where humanity no longer exists
And that's the bigger vision behind Elon's approach to SI safety
Not just building incredibly powerful superintelligence, but shaping SI that is curious, truth-seeking and helps humanity survive, flourish and reach the stars
