BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him. Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible. The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.” Per NYT: “The plan worked. A young man is stuffing cases of soda and paper towels into the trunk of an SUV. An older woman grabs him from behind and they tumble over a shopping cart. The woman filming keeps telling her "let them go." Then the camera swings over to an older man on the ground next to a car, with blood on the pavement. The guy jumps in and drives off with the trunk still open. I get the "let them go" instinct. Groceries are replaceable, and a stranger who is willing to hurt somebody over them isn't going to stop because you asked nicely. Nobody should get hurt trying to win a tug of war over paper towels. But I understand the woman who grabbed him, too. You see a neighbor on the ground and your body moves before your head does. Where I land is that the hero move here is the one the filmer finally made: getting that man down on the pavement, keeping him still and calling for an ambulance. I can't see what happened before the video starts, so I won't guess who did what to the older man. Whatever led up to it, he's the one who needed help, and that's what I'd want every person standing there to remember. Get the plate, get the description, get the man help. As a dad, the lesson I'd want my boys to take from it is simple: your stuff is never worth a fight, and a hurt person always comes before a runaway thief. Property can be replaced. People can't.
