Did you see this silver Hyundai Elantra last Saturday evening? If so, call Bellevue Police (425-577-5656). Juveniles driving this vehicle allegedly & intentionally hit a bicyclist. The victim was treated & released from Overlake. But these suspects must be held accountable.

Tourism is a curse when it is pursued as an end unto itself. At best, it is the means to an end, something to mature beyond. Places stuck as tourist destinations are extractive and exploitative of locals. Always build your city for the people you have, not the people you want.
Tourism is a curse. The place becomes unlivable. Real estate values rise but future generations priced out of the market. Convenience stores become luxury outlets. Natives move out, jet setters own empty apartments.. The planet is too small & everybody wants to go to Venice.

On a ped-bike bridge next to an elevated rapid transit station over Bellevue’s main east-west arterial just to rub it in Kemper Freeman’s face.
I didn't actually think they'd be this blatant with criticism of the Freemans

It also follows that, if you have to pay for local government out of your tax base, you should approve development that grows that tax base more than it grows your liabilities. Impact fees dull this feedback loop and can promote bad fiscal decisions. strongtowns.org/journal/2018…

I witnessed this myself. It's crazy, a byproduct of technology that culture has not yet processed (think the Gutenberg revolution on meth). Never forget that, when you are online, you are the product. Your mind, your thoughts, your hopes and aspirations, your fears and your hatreds, are the product being sold to someone else. Yuck.

A rare transportation technology that deserves *more* hype, not less: Cameras that automatically ticket cars blocking bus & bike lanes smartcitiesdive.com/news/cit…

As a traveler, I ride mostly buses, regularly with a bicycle. Have not felt unsafe in my travels. As an official at @KingCountyWA & @SoundTransit, I share oversight over safety for all employees and riders. Many interesting answers to this question - please share yours.
Do you feel safe riding the bus or light rail in Seattle?

As @clmarohn always says: Many vision zero / complete streets safety projects are just massive new/updated car infrastructure projects with a tiny amount of pedestrian safety improvements thrown in to justify the "safety" aspect.

Really good thread on the challenges with fully fare-free transit. I’m with @PedestrianMan on this one.

When we pay into something, we have expectations. Safety, service, courtesy. Frequency. We want the experience to be great. We hold the service and our fellow customers to a higher standard. And that expectation ensures that riders tell the agency what they think.

It’s hard to overstate just how many more people you can move on just a single lane of dedicated transit compared to giving that space to cars.
400 people on buses & 100 people in cars in 5 minute timelapse👇🏾The red #RapidTO #TTC bus lane on Kennedy is doing exactly what it's meant to do. This is the type of project we need to do more of to keep #Scarborough moving! Some benefits... [1/4]

Two interesting pilots: 1) Sensors that detect speeding and don't let speeders catch green lights by changing signal timing 2) All-red lights at night to discourage nighttime speeding by essentially creating signalized 4-way stops on some corridors

Driving brings out (creates?) aggressive behavior in all of us. It's been observed since cars first became affordable household purchases, and it crosses socioeconomic boundaries. Be on guard when you're in the driver's seat. xitter.cf/TheFederman/status/175…

I've received a bit of pushback on this. Politics bore me and I really have no time for it. Like I said at this press conference, I'll stand together with anyone who is serious about eliminating parking mandates. @OmarFatehMN and @IlhanMN are serious, so I'm here with them. This is good for Minnesota and good for America. I hope many more join us. And, FWIW, why is the government forcing families and businesses to build parking spaces they don't want or need? That's what a parking mandate is. That's what this simple and focused bill prohibits. This is core @StrongTowns and it should happen everywhere. It is a bizarre day that the socialists support limiting government interventions and the libertarians (at least those that showed up) support government mandates. Check your heart, friends. This isn't about politics; it's about leadership.

People in Seattle is spinning elaborate theories to explain the departure of @SoundTransit CEO @JulieETimm, but this explains it as well as anything.
I’m going to say something that some of you are not going to like. You may even be hostile to this comment. But I can’t help it. I prefer Atlantic Salmon.

Albany is one of the few cities where transit ridership has exceeded pre-pandemic levels because @CDTA focuses on frequency above all and constantly improves service. Every transit agency needs to follow this model!
