Premier Smith — some of us lived the last time Ottawa treated Alberta like a tap. I am old enough to remember the NEP. I watched what “national policy” did to real towns. Receivership. Empty main streets. Hotels dark. Divorces. People who never came back. It took more than a decade to crawl out. The east still got their heat. So when people scream “shut off the taps” like it’s a hockey chant, I want them to hear this: If you close or tax four million barrels a day into the United States, you do not hurt Donald Trump. You idle Alberta. You fire the people who actually produce the wealth. You hand the U.S. a reason to buy Venezuela. Then they cut gasoline and diesel into Ontario and Quebec right as winter comes. Canada has no strategic reserve to cover that. Sarnia and Montreal find out what a slogan costs at the pump. It will not stay in Alberta this time. The country is already on the edge — kids in basements, grocery triage, tariffs both ways, family businesses hanging by a thread. Alberta still writes the cheque that equalization spends. If this basin goes down while the rest of the federation is already stretched, there is no spare Canada to float the rest. You do not get a patriotic moment. You get a hole in the national books and a fuel crisis in the east on the same weekend. I support you saying no. Say it louder. Do not let Ottawa, Queen’s Park, or a comment section turn our energy into a weapon they will not have to live under. Build the pipe east if they want security. Do not torch the customer we still have. I lived the last experiment. The young ones did not. If Alberta fails in this shape of country, we all fail. That is not a threat from the west. That is arithmetic.
