More of the “Big Beautiful Bill” will go into effect in January, and it will be terrible. Republicans will try to absolve themselves of passing it, and try to shift the blame to the Democrats who won yesterday. Get ahead of it now. @TheDemocrats

The people cutting employees while revenue is growing are the same people you're counting on to pay your UBI out of the goodness of their hearts.
Microsoft is offering buyouts to 60,000(!) employees. Headcount and revenue growth is really starting to diverge at tech companies.

Person who is reverse engineering his tv gets banned from OpenAI You aren't allowed to stop your tv from spying on your family. You have to ask for permission Or, maybe, maybe we accelerate
banned for reverse engineering work? that’s wild oh well, -$500, and a bunch of banked resets) but gained motivation to get 3 more machines and finish my cluster. i have never used openai to exploit or find vulnerabilities, only local reverse engineering which tripped daybreak.

the trick is having the courage to live through a chapter you hate without letting it poison your belief in the story. even in the middle of something painful, you can hold onto that deep pull toward what your life could become. so much of life comes down to your ability to keep believing in what you cannot see yet, to keep faith in the story while you’re still living through the parts that make it hard to believe

Humans having no more jobs isn't just about having no more meaning. 1. Your little job is the little bargaining chip with which people afford their lives. Being reliant on hand outs from the governments is a precarious situation, they can be revoked at any time. 2. People like Jon work in the media and inform people about what is going on, this supposedly also all gets automated. Jon has a little bit of power through his TV show. Automating all jobs => giving all power to AI. 3. Humans currently pose some threat to the government through violence or strike potential. Automating the military and security service will get rid of that. This all is unlikely to matter as we will just look like dumb little bugs ("bootloaders" as e-acc calls it) occupying the precious real estate of this planet from the perspective of AI. But people are right to smell danger when they hear all labor will be replaced by these new creatures AI corps are building.
In this interview I tried to argue that a post-scarcity society will benefit working people. It was largely a rhetorical failure. People don’t trust that the benefits will be distributed, and tech optimists have to fix this communications issue.

Here's my best attempt at explaining what I think this open letter is really about. It's not just the math elites protecting their status. Imagine a tribe of monkeys who can see a dense grove of fruit trees at the center of the jungle. They all want to go there, but the jungle is dense and dangerous and there's no path. They offer a prize to any brave monkey explorer who can retrieve a particular kind of golden fruit that only grows at the absolute center of the grove. Officially, the goal is to get the fruit. But that's not really what the tribe cares about. What they actually want is for someone to discover a path through the grove. Once a path exists, everyone can follow it and share in the prized fruits. One day a strange bird appears. It flies directly over the trees and easily picks up the golden fruit, dropping it neatly at the monkeys' feet. By the rules of the prize, the bird has done what was asked of it. But the monkeys are dissatisfied. The task required no bravery from the bird, and more importantly, there's still no path to the grove. I think this captures some of the discomfort mathematicians have with AI. A correct proof is nominally the prize, but much of the value lies in the path to the proof: the concepts, techniques, and understanding that the proof creates. Human solvers create these naturally so there was no need to make them part of the prize. AI solvers don't. Even worse, they destroy the value of the prize which demotivates the human solvers and leaves the field impoverished.
BREAKING: Terence Tao and 24 other Fields Medalists just signed a letter telling AI companies they're destroying mathematics >headlines: AI solves famous math problems >25 greatest mathematicians respond today >"we are witnessing a general threat to intellectual work" >ai labs are treating math problems like a benchmark you can brute force >“solutions are announced in a rush, leaving no time for a proper writeup and citing relevant previous work of others" >they're talking about openai >"this raises severe attribution and plagiarism questions" >they're definitely talking about openai >openai offered to put math professor name on navier-stokes proof >condition: abandon his coauthor bc he works at anthropic >"the most precious resources of our profession are students and ideas" >for the labs the most precious resource is GPUs A Severe Misalignment of AI in Mathematics

Because why the baby got on “hard” clothes? Why is it not knits and soft cottons so that baby can wiggle and be comfortable?? DON’T PISS ME OFF! 🤣

Major trip of hitting your late 20s/early 30s is seeing someone with the director/VP title, thinking they're much older than you, then realizing they're your age, and ur like damn they really did that corporate grind fr fr

Influencers are the private equity of culture: draining whatever’s “cool” until higher prices and worse experiences push out the original fan base. Then they move on to the next thing, leaving the original to die as fans lose interest or the ability to participate.
How as a grown man you aren’t embarrassed by this is beyond me. It’s time to ban influencers from sports.
